There aren’t many details out about the upcoming season 3 of The Mandalorian, so Star Wars fans are latching on to any little shred of information we get about the show. We got another tiny little tease from one of the show’s actors over the weekend.

In a quick interview with Variety, Giancarlo Esposito — who plays villain Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian — was asked if viewers should expect to see him back in the third season of the show. After all, his character was left in a very precarious situation at the end of season 2.

Esposito was, unsurprisingly, pretty coy with his answer. But he did give something that’s about as close to a hopeful guarantee as you could ask for from an actor in any Star Wars project.

“I have to imagine you would,” Esposito said when asked if we’d see Moff Gideon in season 3. “I can’t speak for them, but I know I have desire. And I think we need to see Moff to continue the story and to continue the pressure and the edge that someone with the big brain that Moff has thinks about.

“So I can almost guarantee it, but there’s never a guarantee. But… you’ll see me baby, come on!”

Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian season 3

That tease is probably the closest thing we’ll get to any firm news on season 3 of The Mandalorian for a while. But at least, despite his answer, it should be pretty much assured that we’ll be seeing Moff Gideon at some point in the season.

Gideon’s fate was very much left up in the air in the season 2 finale, as were most of the fates of most of the main characters. It stands to reason that Gideon would be shipped off to prison or some sort of holding facility, but knowing how crafty and beguiling he is, it wouldn’t be a shock if he escaped or finds a way out once he is in a cell somewhere.

Whatever happens, we have no doubt that Giancarlo Esposito will wow us with his performance once again.
