Easter eggs are aplenty in LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales as StarWars.com highlights, a total of 20 tidbits and homages that fill the recent Halloween special. For fans of the beloved franchise, some moments in Terrifying Tales might’ve been more obvious than others, but there are quite a few that lead the way in referencing iconic moments or pay tribute to other legendary stories.

LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales does focus on a specific cast of characters, with Poe Dameron and BB-8 as the initial leads, but the overall story didn’t dissuade its creators from imagining “what if…?” with original or more recent characters in the Star Wars universe. Whether or not LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales left you feeling frightened or not, it’s clear that all fans could find something to enjoy with many of these fun Easter eggs spread throughout the animated film.

Let’s take a look at five iconic references in LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales.

1. LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales meets The Lost Boys

For the Halloween season, the one reference I’ve seen most talked about (that I’ve paid attention to) belongs to The Lost Boys. The thrilled responses from seeing The Lost Boys played out in Star Wars is exciting to see, because connecting the dots between completely different stories lets us know not only what the creators enjoyed watching in their earlier years, but that they had fun incorporating their youth into the animated film.

The excited tweet above sums up the love that’s come from seeing Star Wars and The Lost Boys mashed together.

2. “Here’s Johnny!”

Moving from one horror to another, who didn’t crack up laughing when a battle droid broke through a wooden door in its best “Here’s Johnny!” impression from The Shining? Of course, with the likes of these kinds of droids, its response was quite longwinded and we probably should’ve seen that coming. Yet, the droid breaks through the door with an axe, sticks its head through and states, “Here’s B-14961138815…” before being pulled away into the darkness.

The timing of this scene is fantastic, because if you’re familiar with these droids, it is absolutely spot-on that the droid didn’t get to complete its line before being interrupted and ultimately destroyed.

3. Watch out for the lava

Iconic lines don’t stop there, as the bearer of the “my precious” phrase gets a nod in one spectacular leap into lava. In one of the final sequences in LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales, we see the antagonist Vanee attempt to maintain control of the Sith Holocron, and he finds himself one with Gollum as we saw in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.

Although the animated film presents the idea that Vanee possibly will come out of it better than Gollum, it’s pretty spectacular to see such an iconic scene land itself within the Star Wars galaxy.

4. A kiss “for luck”

My favorite nod to the Star Wars lore comes with the reimagining of Luke Skywalker if he succumbed to the Dark Side with Darth Vader by his side. In the ultimate chef’s kiss. We see Vader holding onto Luke’s shoulders as they swing from one landing to another. While we don’t see Princess Leia giving Luke the kiss here, seeing Vader take her place is a fun and funny throwback to an unforgettable scene from A New Hope.

5. “Ruh roh!”

The fifth and final iconic Easter egg to land itself in LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales belongs to a very familiar phrase: “Ruh roh!” Saving the best for last (because my own kids absolutely love Scooby-Doo), this quick nod to a different beloved franchise gives us another reason to keep coming back to this Halloween special year after year.

If you’re looking for familiar hijinks you might find in any iteration of the Scooby-Doo franchise, then you’ll be excited to catch a glimpse of it within the Star Wars universe. Seeing as Terrifying Tales does a great job at being approachable for all ages, it makes sense that they reference a series that’s been around even longer than Star Wars itself.
