Little by little, the upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Ahsoka is coming together. Back in November 2021, reports surfaced that Sabine Wren would be joining the series in a lead role alongside Rosario Dawson. Now, fans are once again speculating the series will eventually reveal  Barris Offee as a featured character.

Rumors have been circulating for a while regarding a Barris Offee return, and that’s largely due to how her story left off in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Because Barris was arrested following the revelation that she’d been the one to facilitate the deadly attack on Coruscant, her fate once the Republic crumbled is still unknown. Some even speculate Barris Offee became an Inquisitor due to her Force sensitivity, though she no longer aligned with the Jedi’s ways.

But it’s Barris’s connection to Ahsoka that prompts the rumor to resurface every now and again in the Star Wars fandom. The two were Padawans together in the Jedi Order and, on a few occasions, bonded on missions with a seemingly mutual understanding of the Force and what it meant to be a Jedi.

Barris’s betrayal ended up being the catalyst that led to Ahsoka’s departure from the Jedi Order. Because of the Jedi’s harsh reaction to the accusations against her –they went as far as to put her on trial without trusting she was innocent — Ahsoka came to believe the Jedi had lost all sense of what it meant to be the peacekeepers of the galaxy.

Bringing Barris Offee back for the Ahsoka series, whatever that might look like (Ahsoka could potentially travel through various points in time through the World Between Worlds), might allow room for Ahsoka to once again confront her past and come to fully embrace her relationship with the Force despite no longer identifying with Jedi traditions.

After all, in a show where Ahsoka is the main protagonist, she’ll have to undergo some growth to emerge from the series with a different perspective than where she began.

Star Wars: Ahsoka is expected to release on Disney+ in 2023.
