The Bad Batch season 1 has come to a close on Disney+, but it’s not the last we’ll see of Clone Force 99 or Omega on the streamer. The animated series was renewed for a second season ahead of its two-part finale. It’s a good thing it was because our ride with the Batch didn’t end on a note that felt final. Perhaps The Bad Batch season 2 will conclude their story.

For 16 episodes, fans of the show have been taken on adventure after adventure with this misfit crew as they try to find their place in a quickly changing galaxy. The Bad Batch has explored issues of autonomy, agency, and what it means to be a soldier in a climate where an oppressive regime has taken control.

The finale confirmed the end of an era in the Star Wars universe, completing the season-long journey of answering the question of how clone troopers were phased out of military ranks in the galaxy as the Empire gained power.

Where will the show go next, and when can we see the second part of the Batch’s story? Here’s what we know.

The Bad Batch season 2 release date

The second season of The Bad Batch will land on Disney+ in 2022, however, a May release for season 2 isn’t in the cards.

The highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series is set to hit the platform on May 25. Once that announcement had been made the question of whether or not The Bad Batch would return in the spring of 2022 as reported in an issue of Star Wars Insider came up.

According to The Direct, whose source is a Reddit user by the handle BZPJMJ64, fans were right to be hesitant to believe that spring release window for the animated series would hold. Issue 209 of Star Wars Insider says The Bad Batch season 2 will be coming soon instead of in spring of 2022. How soon? Likely summer if it does indeed miss spring.

While Andor is also set to make its land in 2022, Disney+ wouldn’t schedule Obi-Wan Kenobi and the series focused on Cassian Andor too close together. The Bad Batch‘s second season would work as a buffer between the two series that still gives Star Wars fans more content whilst giving their tentpole shows space to make the desired cultural impact.

The Direct also reports that Andor is likely to come in the fall.

Spoilers ahead for The Bad Batch season 1.

The Bad Batch season 2 cast

Despite the massive amount of destruction that happens in “Kamino Lost” everyone made it out alive in the season finale. As such we should be seeing the return of all the members of the Batch including Omega plus the young clones droid.

Here’s the presumed cast list for season 2:

  • Dee Bradley Baker as The Batch and the Regs
  • Michelle Ang as Omega
  • Rhea Perlman as  Cid
  • Noshir Dalal as Vice Admiral Rampart
  • Gwendoline Yeo as Nala Se
  • Stephen Stanton as Admiral Tarkin
  • Ben Diskin as AZI-3

The Bad Batch season 2 plot predictions

Given the ending of season 1, The Bad Batch season 2 is likely to be a split story once again. Though the air was cleared between Crosshair and the rest of the Batch, they parted ways as they fundamentally believe and want different things.

The Batch are off to be mercenaries again while their sniper is waiting on the Empire to circle back and find him. Currently, they’re not on opposite sides of a brewing war, but they’re bound to be in the second season.

At some point, the Batch are going to have to make a choice to either fight with the rebels or stay out of the conflict altogether. For them, the Empire isn’t an option because they don’t agree with what the regime is doing. The tension between Crosshair and the rest of his siblings will likely come up again in the second season.

There’s also the ending scene to contend with where Nala Se has been taken to an Imperial facility. Her scientific theories and clone technology are now under the control of the Empire. Where they may go with this plot point is up in the air, but we could circle back to it in season 2.
