At the end of Back to the Future Part III, Doc Brown says to Marty and Jennifer, “Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one.”

The actor behind those words–Christopher Lloyd–is now making the future of Star Wars even brighter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lloyd is joining the cast of The Mandalorian season 3. The Hollywood Reporter article also mentions that his role remains a mystery, but that it sounds like a guest-starring role.

Although little is known about the plot of The Mandalorian season 3, The Book of Boba Fett did provide some setup, some of which could hint at Lloyd’s upcoming role. He is best known for playing the eccentric Doc Brown in the Back to the Future franchise, but has proven that he can bring any manner of character to life, opening up the door for many possibilities in a galaxy far, far away.

If his role is anything like Doc Brown, he could be an eccentric, humorous, but also knowledgeable character who helps Din Djarin and Grogu as they continue their journeys. He may have knowledge that will help Din regain his honor as a Mandalorian or maybe even teach him to better wield and control the Darskaber.

It would be intriguing to see Lloyd playing an older Mandalorian with a colorful personality who has been around longer than any Mandalorian Din has ever met before. As Din tries to become a Mandalorian again in the eyes of the Armorer, it would be interesting for him to meet a Mandalorian who is not like any Mandalorian he has met before, someone who saw the best and worst of Mandalorian culture even before the Clone Wars.

Of course, being a scientist was a big part of Lloyd’s most famous character, and he could be a scientist with knowledge that will unlock more secrets about Grogu’s past. With The Book of Boba Fett reuniting Din and Grogu for good, the lingering mysteries surrounding Grogu will be an important part of the story again.

There are plenty of other characters that Lloyd could play such as a new bounty hunter, a member of an Imperial remnant, a New Republic official interrogating Moff Gideon, or literally anyone else. No matter who he plays, it will be a treat to see Lloyd joining Star Wars.
