Natalie Portman makes MCU return in Thor: Love and Thunder trailer
By Meg Dowell
Natalie Portman may not have plans to return to a galaxy far, far away. But the former Star Wars actor is making her grand return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe this summer. She will reprise her role as Jane Foster, who has been absent from the Thor movies for quite some time.
Marvel released its first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder this morning, the next MCU film to premiere after Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness next month. Lady Thor waits until the very end of the trailer to drop jaws, but don’t worry: It’s worth the wait.
Portman is actually only one of many Star Wars actors that have also appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Oscar Isaac might be the one on most minds right now with his current starring role in Moon Knight — he played Poe Dameron in the sequel trilogy first.
Possibly one of the most notable crossover actors is Samuel L. Jackson. His role as Mace Windu in the prequels was quite small compared to his recurring presence as Nick Fury in the MCU, but he’s stated many times over he’s interested in returning to Star Wars.
Paul Bettany jumped from his role as Vision in the MCU to the role of a villain in Solo: A Star Wars Story, but left Dryden Vos lifeless on the floor (spoilers, sorry) and returned to Marvel in WandaVision.
And we couldn’t continue this list without mentioning Lupita Nyong’o, who played Maz Kanata in the sequel trilogy and also starred in Black Panther alongside the late Chadwick Boseman.
Portman will portray Lady Thor for the first time in the MCU, and we can’t wait to see her back in action — literally — on the big screen.
Thor: Love and Thunder releases in theaters on July 8, 2022.
