7 intense moments from Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3
Obi-Wan Kenobi did not make us wait another week before dialing up the intensity within the Disney+ series. Creators of this show had us on the edge of our collective seats throughout the course of the latest episode. Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 places Obi-Wan and Leia in perilous positions from the start and it doesn’t really give us much time to breathe between each thrilling moment.
Let’s dive into Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 and pick apart the most intense moments in sequential order. Each of these scenes are exciting to watch on their own, but putting them altogether leads to one of the most intense episodes of Star Wars I’ve ever seen. Let’s get into it!
Darth Vader put together piece-by-piece
“Are you there, Master?” As Obi-Wan sits aboard the space transport to escape with Leia, he seeks the council of his old master. Instead, he hears Reva’s words from the previous episode telling him that Anakin is alive and “he’s been looking for you for a long time.”
This opening sequence plays out flashing back-and-forth between Obi-Wan and Anakin being put together as Darth Vader. It’s chilling to watch, especially as Obi-Wan is pleading for his master’s help. “Help me, Master Qui-Gon. Give me strength.” All of it leads to the unmistakable and terrifying mechanical breathing everyone knows to be Darth Vader. It sets the tone for the entire episode in such a way where you feel Vader’s grip each step along Obi-Wan and Leia’s path.
Stormtroopers board the transport
Leia’s strength of will leads the pair to board a transport to make their way to the closest port. Freck is their driver and he seems quite comfortable with the Empire’s rule. It’s not long before he stops to pick up a few stormtroopers, which seems to be a common occurrence for Freck. The simple action of troopers boarding the transport is intense enough, but it doesn’t end just there.
Obi-Wan gives them fake names and roles, but he soon slips up and says Leia’s name. The stormtrooper is quick enough to realize the error and the tension in those few seconds leads fans to wonder what will happen next. Obi-Wan is able to recover and explain his error. “That was her mother’s name. I get confused. Like I said, it’s not been easy.” This moment is incredibly powerful as Obi-Wan relates seeing Leia to seeing her mother, further highlighting the pain Obi-Wan has experienced.
“Sometimes when I look at Luma, I see her mother’s face. We all miss her very much.” Heart wrenching!
Getting off the transport at a security checkpoint
Oh, Freck. You betrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi and Leia Organa. Not that it’s a surprise he’s a loyalist, but here we are with Freck stopping at a security checkpoint and telling the stationed guards to “check them out.” Unfortunately, Obi-Wan’s hood doesn’t prevent them from being asked off the ship.
A flying reconnaissance droid approaches to scan his identity and Obi-Wan pulls out his blaster to fight the entire team after destroying the droid. All things seem to go well until one trooper holds Leia hostage. Excuse me. Don’t you know who that is? Obi-Wan does and his blaster skills are clearly above par as he saves Princess Leia. And, sigh of relief.
Vader arrives to search for Obi-Wan
As Obi-Wan and Leia are about to escape through a tunnel with the help of a new friend, something happens. Obi-Wan is overcome by something. Whether he senses something dark or something senses him, he rushes to the window to look out onto the village. He sees troopers, Inquisitors and soon we all hear Darth Vader.
The frightening sound continues as you watch another back-and-forth between Obi-Wan and Vader. The sequence highlights Vader as he walks through the village and terrifies everyone. Yes, characters and viewers. He Force chokes people as he passes by and it’s disturbing to say the least. If you don’t want to watch someone get their neck snapped by the flick of Vader’s hand, you might not want to rewatch this sequence. Yikes!
Obi-Wan’s field of vision
After being confronted by Vader, Obi-Wan attempts to flee to buy Leia time to escape. It’s clear he hasn’t held his lightsaber or used it since he buried it long ago. Knowing that Vader is close, he ignites his blue lightsaber and it’s magnificent to see. However, what Obi-Wan sees makes me think it would be easier to see without it on.
As we see through his eyes, seeing out into the darkness seems impossible with the blue light. The intensity behind not knowing where Vader is, matched with this limited field of vision, is a moment where I realized I was holding my breath. Although a brief moment, it’s beyond scary and very much deserving of a spot on this list.
Obi-Wan Kenobi burning alive
Do I need to say anymore than that? Darth Vader holds Obi-Wan up into the air, choking him before setting a fire. To which he then proceeds to Force drag Obi-Wan into the fire and watch as he burns like Anakin did ten years earlier. Are you kidding me?
Name one thing you never thought you’d see in your life and watching Obi-Wan Kenobi burn alive is on that list!
Leia finds Reva instead of safety
Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 leaves fans with a cliffhanger and it doesn’t look good for the “good guys.” Obi-Wan’s majorly injured (although rescued) and Leia follows the underground tunnel to find something deeply troubling. Reva found her way to the meeting point first and Leia must realize the horror right in front of her eyes.
After asking if Reva is the one she’s supposed to meet, the reply sends chills down your back, “Unfortunately, they couldn’t make it, but I’ll take you from here.” Leia looks over to see the dead pilot, she turns to run and the scene ends. In an episode built upon intense moment after intense moment, this final sequence tells us where the next one will start.
