Shadow of the Sith: Lando Calrissian searches for his lost daughter in new excerpt

Just two weeks away from publication, the hype is heating up for the next Star Wars novel, Shadow of the Sith by Adam Christopher.

Last week, Star Wars shared the fourth and final excerpt for the upcoming adult novel set nearly a decade before the events of The Force Awakens. It chiefly follows Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian – sometimes apart, sometimes together – as they investigate disturbing dark side visions, Lando’s missing daughter, the assassin Ochi of Bestoon, and what it all has to do with the planet Exegol.

Of course, we already know many of the finer points. Ochi was an assassin who specialized in hunting and killing Jedi. He worked for the Sith, namely Darth Vader and Darth Sidious, and continued to after the Battle of Endor.

In The Rise of Skywalker, we learn Ochi was tasked with hunting down Emperor Palpatine’s granddaughter, Rey, and her parents. The film also revealed Exegol as the home of the Sith Eternal and Palpatine’s horrifying cloning experiments he’d been working on for decades in order to achieve immortality through the dark side.

With this new excerpt from Shadow of the Sith, some of the key plot points begin coming together. Namely, the catalyst for Luke and Lando’s mission to find Exegol.

The excerpt, shared by IGN, is told from Lando’s point of view.

"“He’d come to Boxer Point on a notion that it was exactly the kind of place he might find a lead on his daughter. It had seemed like a good idea, but even as he plotted his course, he knew from bitter experience that he was just trying very hard to convince himself he was doing something productive to further his search.”"

The excerpt also reveals the name of Lando’s daughter: Kadara Calrissian

Then, the passages focus on Ochi, who’s loudly and drunkenly boasting of his “reactivation” as a hunter and assassin to some fellow bar patrons.

"“No wonder they came crawling back to me. I used to hunt Jedi, back in the Clone Wars, did you know that? Ochi of Bestoon was the best hunter in the galaxy. They want the girl? Easy. Ochi will have it done in no time.”"

The girl Ochi mentions is, of course, Rey. She and her parents were featured in an excerpt from the book a few weeks ago.

As Lando listens in, Ochi also says he’s been told he’ll be given the way to Exegol and that the Sith are the ones giving him this task to capture Rey.

"“The Sith have called me,” he said, quietly. “I served them before. And now they have called me again.”"
