Will Princess Leia appear in Star Wars: Andor? A Reddit theory suggests so

Andor is a little over one month away, and Star Wars fans — as usual — are hard at work trying to guess who will and won’t appear in the show. (I bet Cassian will be in it, for a few episodes at least.)

A Reddit theory suggests a mysterious character shown in the latest Andor trailer could be none other than Princess Leia of Alderaan, most recently seen at a much younger age in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series. You may have seen her in a few other movies, or heard about her in some books. She’s sort of a big deal.

“This is what revolution looks like,” the character — whom the trailer’s subtitles call “Kleya” — says, walking behind a veil and speaking with a British accent.

It’s not uncommon for Star Wars fans to heavily analyze every frame of a trailer to try picking out familiar faces that might appear in an upcoming series. This theory continues the all-too-common practice of assuming a legacy character must appear in every new show at some point — though, to be fair, it’s not like these predictions have been proven wrong in recent years.

Leia could appear in this series, logically. But the fact that we just spent six episodes of a Star Wars series with her earlier this year makes the possibility far less likely. Not every young girl with pale skin and brown hair in Star Wars has to be a young Leia (or Jyn … or Rey …).

The theory also doesn’t line up perfectly with Leia’s whereabouts if we’re to assume this is happening five years before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, when she would be about 14. Leia: Princess of Alderaan, which takes place just before Leia turns 16, reveals she didn’t have full knowledge of what her parents and others such as Mon Mothma were really up to. Claudia Gray’s novel takes place at a time in Leia’s life when she wouldn’t have known a large-scale rebellion against the Empire could be possible.

But theories are fun! There’s nothing wrong with some good old-fashioned speculation, especially since we have to wait longer for the series premiere than originally anticipated.

Star Wars: Andor is set to premiere its first three episodes on September 21, 2022, exclusively on Disney+.
