Rian Johnson is expected to address his work on Star Wars in an upcoming interview — though it probably won’t be what you’re expecting.

In an upcoming issue, Empire will speak with Johnson about his stunning career as a director, covering everything from Brick to Glass Onion and everything in between. Yes, that includes Star Wars. But that won’t be the main focus of the interview.

The magazine, in its issue preview, stated the following:

"“As well as [Daniel] Craig and Johnson, we speak to the likes of Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Lesle Odom Jr. and Janelle Monáe to get acquainted with Blanc’s latest crop of suspects – with never-before-seen images and more. Not only that, but we celebrate Johnson’s entire career so far – with a major new deep-dive into the legacy of Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, now a half-decade old.”"

You read that right — The Last Jedi is nearly five years old this year, celebrating its fifth anniversary this December. It’s a good time to reflect on one of the most unique Star Wars films ever to release as part of the larger Skywalker Saga.

While there are many that consider the sequel trilogy to be controversial, again, it’s been five years. It’s probably time for both the people behind the scenes and those watching from the sidelines to take a deeper, more positive look at the whole package. For Johnson, it’s likely he’s already done that. He made his Star War and moved on.

So it’s unlikely that Johnson will address the negativity that surrounded the film — why spend an interview meant to praise your work focusing on the unfounded hate of a loud minority of trolls? Expect to read his thoughts on the film, what it meant to him and how it positively impacted his career.
