Rogue One is coming back to theaters again!
One surprise that came out of Disney+ Day 2022 was the announcement that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is back in AMC theaters starting today!
To celebrate the upcoming premiere of Andor, Lucasfilm released Rogue One on IMAX in a special one-night event on August 26th. It included a behind-the-scenes first look at Andor starring Diego Luna as well as a sneak peek scene between Luna’s character, Cassian, meeting Stellan Skarsgård’s character, Luthen Rael. Some fans were also lucky enough to score a limited edition poster for the new show. The weekend paid off for Disney as they had raked in $1 million from the showing. It pushed Rogue One‘s lifetime gross total on IMAX to $105 million.
One of the Disney+ Day 2022 reveals was that Rogue One is coming back to theaters for a limited run. Announced on StarWars.com, Rogue One can be seen from September 8-19. They don’t mention anything about it being an IMAX showing, and it appears the same sneak peek has premiered today on Disney+. More than likely, it’s just the movie.
Though, it’s important to note that the StarWars.com article uses the IMAX poster from the August event in their announcement, so it’s unclear at this time if it has the same sneak peek as well.
Disney+ Day began in 2021 as a celebration of the second anniversary of the streaming service. Last year’s Disney+ Day released the first trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi. This year, Kenobi is getting an in-depth making of the series documentary released today. Disney+ Day is also offering a deal to sign up for the streaming service for one month for $1.99 for a limited time.
With D23 this weekend, Disney+ Day is just the beginning of an exciting news week for Star Wars. Check back with Dork Side of the Force for more upcoming coverage.
Andor will premier exclusively on Disney+ with its first three episodes on September 21.
