Pedro Pascal’s star power continues to burn bright. Not only does he shine as the title role in Disney+’s The Mandalorian (season three is set to premiere in February 2023), but his resume is bursting with credits including this past spring’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, also starring Nick Cage.

The film, which is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, is a meta-take on Cage’s status as a cult figure in cinematic history. Following the fictionalized character of actor Nicolas Cage (played by Cage himself), Unbearable Weight explores the legacy of stardom and the meaning of success in an ever-demanding industry with Pascal and Cage teaming up in an unlikely but hilarious duo. The film, which earned slightly less than its $30 million budget, was critically hailed largely thanks to Pascal’s dazzling and charismatic performance as Javi Gutierrez, a Cage-superfan and billionaire who pays Cage to attend his birthday party.

At Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, Pascal was asked by Yahoo! Entertainment if he would like to work with Cage again, but this time in the Star Wars universe. Enthusiastically, Pascal responded that he had already suggested that Cage would make an excellent Mandalorian, with the series executive producer, director, and writer Rick Famuyiwa agreeing.

In peak teasing form, Pascal then called for Lucasfilm executive Kathleen Kennedy, but unfortunately, she was out of earshot to provide any insight to the question.

Pascal wasn’t so certain of Cage’s potential choice of hardware if he joined the series. When Famuyiwa asked if Cage would wear a helmet or not, Pascal first said yes, but then changed his mind, saying his former co-star could be part of the Mandalorian sect who doffs their hardware.

Although much of the upcoming season is under wraps, the first trailer for season three of the runway Disney+ success premiered at the expo, which leaves much to look forward to this winter. Nicolas Cage cameo or not, this season of The Mandalorian is not to be missed.
