After a comparatively barren stretch in the video game space, we could be about to see a major splash from Star Wars in the coming years.

In 2013, Lucasfilm and Disney signed a 10-year deal with EA Games for the publishing giant to develop and release Star Wars titles exclusively. That deal will come to an end in 2023, and the still infant Lucasfilm Games wasted little time opening their doors to negotiations. A host of titles within the Star Wars universe has been announced over the past couple of years, indicating a more bountiful future for the series ahead. Now, it would appear that we could be getting an interactive dose of Star Wars on a very regular basis.

It would appear Disney is keen to make waves in the gaming industry, and that Star Wars will be the vessel for those waves. Reports from Insider Gaming suggest that there are plans in place to have a new Star Wars release on a biannual basis. The reports suggest that, alongside the multiple titles already announced, several more have already entered pre-production. The report also mentions the notion that, alongside the larger, AAA budget titles, that schedule will be supplemented by smaller titles, such as Motive’s Star Wars Squadrons, or mobile titles.

Busy times ahead

At the time of writing, eight titles have been publicly announced. Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Jedi Fallen Order, has three titles in the works (the upcoming Jedi Survivor, a first-person shooter, and a strategy game). Quantic Dream has controversially been announced to be working on a High Republic-era title named Eclipse. Ubisoft Massive is working on an open-world title, Knights of the Old Republic is receiving a remake, albeit one caught in some development trouble, and Amy Hennig is finally getting an opportunity to create her own Star Wars story with Skydace Games. Additionally, Zynga’s Star Wars Hunters is slated for a 2023 release.

With plenty on the horizon, the video game space is quickly becoming one of the fastest-moving aspects of the Star Wars series. Keep it with Dork Side of the Force for more as it’s announced!
