The latest trailer of The Bad Batch was full of so many surprises. One of which was the first look at a new character named Phee Genoa played by none other than actor and comedian, Wanda Sykes. As there were no prior announcements leading up to this reveal, having Sykes join the Star Wars galaxy truly was an awesome revelation.

Not much is known about Phee Genoa as the trailer was her first look and announcement. Though we can glean some information from the two shots she was in. The most interesting thing to me is that Phee is in Cid’s office. Cid is the Trandoshan ally of the Batch who assigns them all of their jobs. Phee is actually the one sitting in Cid’s seat and has her feet up on the desk. This tells me that she’s in some position of power over Cid thus giving her power over the Batch too. It’s a lot like when Roland Durand temporarily took over Cid’s establishment in the season one episode “Infested.”

Phee talks about the Batch being a group of rogue clones on the run from the Empire, mentioning how they’re the “top team.” These two scenes from the trailer seem to point that she has some sort of job for our clone mercenaries.

Wanda Sykes is a well-renowned comedian and actress known for her stage performances and comedy tours which led her to host the Oscars this year. She’s been in many movies and shows like Black-ish and The Upshaws. This isn’t her first jump into voice-over work as she’s stared in movies and shows like Q-Force, Rio, Over the Hedge, and the Ice Age franchise. This is Sykes’ first venture into a galaxy far, far away.

Wanda Sykes is an excellent voice guest to join The Bad Bad. Phee Genoa already looks to be an important character. I can’t wait to see how she fits into the story.

The Bad Batch airs exclusively on Disney+ on January 4th. Stay up to date with all things The Bad Batch here on Dork Side of the Force.
