Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Bad Batch season two, episode 1, “Spoils of War.”
After a six-month hiatus, Star Wars: The Bad Batch has returned for its second season on Disney+ with a two-part premiere. After the previous season ended in a thrilling face-off between The Bad Batch and their one-time brother, Crosshair, fans are eager to see where the clone troopers head next.
Let’s dive into the season premiere, “Spoils of War,” and find out what Clone Troop 99 is up to.
One Last Heist…
In the opening moments of “Spoils of War,” it’s clear some time has passed since we last saw The Bad Batch (Dee Bradley Baker). Omega (Michelle Ang) looks older, and the crew is in the middle of a new mission.
We later learn that the Empire’s expansion is reaching further and becoming more deadly, leading the crew to take on their most dangerous heist yet–the theft of a war chest that belonged to Count Dooku. It will undoubtedly attract the attention of the Empire, but it also promises money to end their mercenary career.
The episode primarily focuses on the heist, ending in a cliffhanger as the crew gets seemingly trapped. However, the premiere also lays out several themes that will likely be explored for the rest of the season.
In a quiet scene between Echo and Hunter, Echo expresses to the leader that they should be focusing on helping people who are threatened by the Empire instead of hiding, while also saying that having to protect Omega is holding them back.
It’s a conflict that won’t go away, especially because Omega’s eagerness seems to be growing into a pre-teen angst that will cause more trouble for the crew. Of course, to see how The Bad Batch escapes, you’ll have to watch the next episode.
