We’ve almost officially closed out 2022. This year, there’s been tons of brand new Star Wars content that has come out – some new seasons of TV shows, some new shows all together. All we know is that 2022 was a great year for the franchise, and we cannot wait to see what 2023 brings!

What can we expect from the Star Wars franchise as a whole in 2023? Let’s take a look!

Here is everything that Star Wars is up to next year! What’s your most favorite?

Star Wars TV Shows

Here are all of 2023’s upcoming TV shows, all to be released on Disney+!

The Bad Batch, Commander Cody

The Bad Batch: Season 2

Season 2 of The Bad Batch has a release date of January 4th.

We will continue our adventures in the earlier days of The Empire with Clone Force 99. It is expected that more will be revealed about Omega and her seeming connection to evil Emperor Palpatine. One thing’s for sure: a Wookie Jedi will be incorporated somewhere within the season.

The Mandalorian: Season 3

Season 3 of The Mandalorian has a release date of March 1st.

This, believe it or not, was the first live-action Star Wars show to ever appear on Disney+! It took a year off to make room for the fan-favorite show The Book of Boba Fett. The main character will see what it’s like to deal with and yield the Darksaber. Greef Karga and Bo-Katan Kryze are both set to return this season. Production for season 2 of Mando started way back in Fall 2021.

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures

The first season of Young Jedi Adventures has a projected release date of Spring 2023.

Here, this animated series is definitely geared more towards the ankle biters in our lives (but trust us, adults can and will enjoy it just as much if not even more). This particular series is set during the High Republic era and will follow younglings as they learn the ways of the force. According to Lucasfilm, here’s just a tad more info:

"“become Jedi: Compassion, self-discipline, teamwork, patience, and friendship…”"

This will also be premiering on Disney Junior!

Star Wars: Visions Volume 2

The second volume of Visions has a projected release date of Spring 2023.

The initial announcement of this series’ second installment came during 2022’s Star Wars Celebration Day. There really no words or even any sort of rumors on any plot or storylines just quite yet. Volume 1 was super anime-focused; this time, episodes will be much more global…filmmakers from Japan, Chile, France, South Africa, and more will be featured as well!

Star Wars: Ahsoka

The premiere season of Ahsoka doesn’t have a release date yet, just some time in 2023.

This is technically a spin-off show in relation to The Mandalorian that will feature Roasario Dawson playing Ahsoka Tano herself (and must I say…she makes a great one). This was the same actress that played her in Mando as well. It’s said to be revolved mostly around her hunt to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, something that was teased during her stunt on The Mandalorain. Following his appearance in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen will be appearing as Anakin Skywalker, whether that’s as a Force Ghost or some sort of flashback from her past life. Sabine Wren, Ahsoka’s Mandalorian comrade, and another unknown villain will make their own appearances as well. Dave Filoni wrote this series and production was known to begin in late April of 2022.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

The debut season of Skeleton Crew has no official release date yet, just some time in 2023.

This was originally titled “Grammar Rodeo” and let me tell ya, I absolutely hate that and thank the heavens above that it was changed. Skeleton Crew just fits the franchise if you ask me…thoughts? Anyways, this comes from the director of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jon Watts. According to Vanity Fair, here’s more about the plot and/or setting(s) of the show to come:

"“The show takes place during the post–Return of the Jedi reconstruction that follows the fall of the Empire, the same as The Mandalorian…A casting notice has called for four children, around 11 to 12 years old…Inside Lucasfilm, the show is being described as a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s…”"

Andor: Season 2

The second season of Andor isn’t officially set to be released in 2023, but why shouldn’t it be?!

This second season is a prequel story of Diego Luna’s rebel spy of Cassian Andor. Filming actually began last month in November of 2022, so that doesn’t give tons of hope for a 2023 release date with all that has to happen to clean the show up afterwards, but a girl can dream, right?

Star Wars: The Acolyte TV Series

The premiere season of The Acolyte doesn’t have an official 2023 release date yet, just a guess.

This is set during the High Republic era, 200 years before all the events of the prequels (films). Someone from Lucasfilm by the name of Kathleen Kennedy gave everyone a huge teaser by stating that the season will “take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emergent dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” Dark? I’m so in already…I love dark, can you tell?!

Star Wars Video Games

Here is the one and only video game set to be released in 2023 by Star Wars!

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

This is the one and only video game on our list for 2023. It’s release date is set for March 17th.

Cal Kestis, a survivor of Order 66, is returning to his super intense yet entertaining adventure 5 years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It is reported to feature brand new force abilities and lightsaber fighting styles – how cool is that?! In addition, Cal will be tested to see just how far he’ll go to protect the ones that are closest to him. You can also follow along with all that happened during this 5-year gap with a Star Wars novel called Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars, where Kestis forms a bond with the crew of Stinger Mantis…we’ll just leave it at that…for now.

Other In-Development Only Projects

These projects, while they may have projected 2023 releases, won’t all be released next year. Most of these we don’t even know much about, but we certainly love to talk about them nonetheless!

Lando TV Series

There is no plans to make a sequel of Solo, but there is a character from the movie that is getting his own live-action TV series: Lando Calrissian! Not much is known about the series at all besides the fact that it’s being developed by Dear White People’s Justin Simien. We assume that Donald Glover will be playing Lando again…I mean who else would look like him and do such a good job?!

Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Movie

It’s officially been confirmed by Disney that Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi is set to be directing a live-action Star Wars movie. Not much is known. The only thing that was said about the film was said all the way back in 2021 when Taika stated that he’s finally cracked the story for the movie, but also at the same time, the script had nothing but marks of being in the early stages of things. In May of this year (2022) Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, announced that this would be the next Star Wars franchise film set to be released! How cool! Cannot wait!

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron

We’ve talked about this project before (read here), so we’ll keep this short but sweet. There actually really is no date or projected date at all for this particular project from Star Wars. It had a trailer and everything, then the project got scrapped and nothing ever happened with it again. There are so many ‘maybe we’ll see it in the futures’ and so many ‘it’s already been officially cancelled’. We don’t know, you don’t know. But when we do, we’ll let ya know.

Untitled Damon Lindelof & Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Movie

Damon Linedolf of Watchmen and Lost is teaming up with Ms. Marvel’s Shareem Obaid-Chinoy to co-write and direct a brand new Star Wars movie. This movie, according to multiple reports, seems to “have the most momentum” at the moment as things are seemingly moving quicker than initially expected to be. Lindeolf is also said to be writing this film additionally alongisde young and upcoming film writer, Justin Britt-Gibson; he’s got particular credits on various TV shows, such as The Strain and The Counterpart. It’s reportedly a stand-alone type of story that is set to feature the likes of characters from the Sequel Trilogy from the 2010’s. There’s also no word on whether or not this film will be live-action or animated cartoon-style. Time will tell, folks. Time will tell.

Phew! That’s a wrap on all of 2023’s (and beyond) Star Wars projects! Can’t wait for next year!

What are you most excited about that is coming out within the Star Wars universe in the near future of 2023? Let’s talk about all of that and so much more down in the comments below, stay tuned, and as always…may the force be with you all!
