It’s award season time! And no less than three shows in the Star Wars universe have received nominations for the 70th annual Motion Picture Sound Editors’ (MPSE) Golden Reel Awards.

*drumroll* and the nominees are…

First up, Andor, from showrunner and producer Tony Gilroy is nominated for “Outstanding Achievement In Sound Editing – Broadcast Long Form Effects/Foley” specifically the shows third episode “Reckoning” where it will compete against episodes from the likes of Better Call Saul, Gaslit, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and Stranger Things.

Next is the animated anthology series Tales of the Jedi which is up for “Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Broadcast Animation” for the series fourth episode “The Sith Lord” where it is up against Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Love, Death & Robots, and Transformers: Earthspark.

And last but certainly not least is the seasonal animated special LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation. It is nominated for “Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Non-Theatrical Animation” this category of nominations is reserved specifically for animations that do not receive theatrical releases or are not part of a continuous series so as to not miss out on industry recognition. Its competitors are: The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous’ Hidden Adventure, and Rise of the Teenage Ninja Turtles: The Movie.

Competing in no less than three categories should yield some positive results for the franchise this awards season. Tales of the Jedi has been well received but the real clamor is reserved for the universally lauded live action series Andor which many are calling the best show of the previous year as well as a new gold standard for live action Star Wars.

The Motion Picture Sound Editors is an honors society of film and sound editors that was founded in 1953. If you stick around for film credits and spot the post-nominal letters “MPSE” now you can annoy your friends by letting them know what they stand for!

The award ceremony will be held on February 26, this year at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.
