Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Bad Batch season two, episode five, “Entombed.”

The second season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch has kicked off with a bang. After a standalone adventure that saw the Bad Batch visit the world of podracing, this week’s episode took them on a dangerous quest for treasure. Let’s dive into the ending and see what is next for Clone Troop 99.

A Search for Lost Treasure

After finding a mysterious item while searching for parts in a junkyard, the Bad Batch wound up on a pirate quest with Phee (Wanda Sykes). The episode was largely a classic treasure hunting adventure in the vein of Lucasfilm classics like Indiana Jones with its own Star Wars bent, but it hinted at a greater mystery.

The world they explored was abandoned with Phee noting that it seemed to be the former home of the “Ancients,” something older than the Jedi. It’s unclear what specific entity this is referencing, but it brings in exciting possibilities for fans of the extended universe with potential ties and references to The High Republic, Knights of the Old Republic, or books and comics from Legends.

However, the larger question for viewers is whether this episode provided some fun easter eggs or if it is setting up a new puzzle for the rest of the season. Echo’s mandate from the premiere–that the clones do more to help those the Empire is hurting–remains.

Will the mysteries of Phee’s treasure hunt reveal new ways for the Bad Batch to fight the Empire, or is it simply a distraction from their larger purpose? Only time will tell, and we’ll have to tune in to find out.
