These 24 Star Wars characters are ones only true fans will know
While the Expanded Universe was rebranded as Star Wars: Legends after the Disney acquisition in 2012, a number of beloved characters were re-canonized in subsequent films, series, and novels. One of the most popular characters was Grand Admiral Thrawn who made his first appearance in Heir to the Empire, before remerging with two new novel trilogies, an arc in Star Wars Rebels, and now a forthcoming appearance in the Ahsoka live-action series.
It may not be necessary to know all of the characters in the Expanded Universe, it’s always a good idea to have a loose idea of what was going on from 1977 to 2012 because it seems like the new canon is heavily borrowing from the past.
1. Luuke Skywalker
With all of the current discussions about cloning thanks to The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch, this list would not be complete without the inclusion of Luuke. Yes, you read that right and no, it isn’t a misspelling.
Luuke Skywalker was an evil clone version of Luke Skywalker, made from the cells extracted from the hand that he lost while dueling with Darth Vader. All of this went down in the now-retired Expanded Universe, but echoes of it still remain in the current canon. Including a reference to Luke’s severed hand which popped up in a recent issue of the Darth Vader comics.
While Luuke Skywalker looked exactly like Luke Skywalker, he wasn’t like the clones from the Republic’s Clone Army. He was, essentially, a mindless drone who did the bidding of Joruus C’baoth, who had orchestrated his creation. Unlike other clones, Luuke lacked individuality and the ability to genuinely feel emotions. Eventually, Mara Jade killed Luuke and Joruus C’baoth and Luke Skywalker gifted Mara with the saber his evil clone had been using, which was the lightsaber he lost during the duel on Cloud City.
Luuke Skywalker was the creation of Timothy Zahn, who is also credited with bringing Thrawn and Mara Jade into the Star Wars universe.
