The Ahsoka trailer gave us a slew of new content to pour over for the upcoming series. We saw Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, and Chopper in live-action. There was even a peek at the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn. New red-blade lightsaber wielders appear to be a new threat.

One of the biggest surprises was a cameo from Mon Mothma. It was a fantastic moment, especially after Genevieve O’Reilly’s recent appearance as the character in Andor. With her was a group of other characters. Thanks to some super sleuth fans, we know who these characters are. One, in particular, will definitely make Star Wars Resistance fans excited.

Twitter user @JacobBoushh posted a tweet about a bit of deep diving into Getty Images, the names of the senators with Mon Mothma are listed. The man to the right of her is named “Senator Xiono.” My Resistance-loving heart freaked out seeing this.

Hamato Xiono is the father of Resistance’s protagonist, Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono. He was a senator in the New Republic at the time of the series, which takes place about a year before the events of Episode VII: The Force Awakens. He survived the destruction of his homeworld of Hosnian Prime, as he wasn’t on the planet at the time. We don’t know much about Hamato other than he was tough on his son and had to often bail Kaz out of trouble. Kaz’s inciting incident of the series was to set out on his own and join the Resistance, a group Hamato held great disdain for.

Now, I do have to say that all the Getty Images label says is “Senator Xiono,” so it could be someone else in Kaz’s family. But as Hamato is the only member of Kaz’s family who we know is an active senator, the signs seem to the point that it’s him. And it’s also important to note this is not an official announcement. Still, it’s an exhilarating moment for Resistance fans!

Being a Star Wars Resistance fan is hard. The show was never really given a chance. It was created before The Last Jedi was filmed and finished before The Rise of Skywalker was even written. It was left on its own in a cable wasteland as Disney+ was prepared to launch. Fans of Resistance, myself included, have always felt like it was the forgotten series. It covers many topics beloved shows do (the first season of Resistance and Andor are the exact same plot), and yet it had a target on its back for being *check notes* a kids’ show.

I adore Star Wars Resistance. It’s my comfort animated series. I desperately want a third season to finish on its own terms now that the Sequel Trilogy is complete. Even if we don’t get that anytime soon, seeing Senator Xiono in Ahsoka is incredibly uplifting that the little animated series we love is not forgotten. Xiono might not play a significant role in the show, but it’s a relief that Lucasfilm hasn’t forgotten about Resistance fans. And it’s adorable to think we could always catch a glimpse of little Kaz in Ahsoka too.
