The Lucasfilm Studio Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration in London gave fans a first look at many of the upcoming projects like Skeleton Crew and the first trailer of Ahsoka. The panel opened up to great fanfare with Andor, bringing the cast out on stage, celebrating season one, and giving fans an update on season two.
There was footage of season two shown. As the footage hasn’t been released publicly, our only knowledge is from fan reporting and news outlets like Variety that attended. Star Wars Explained’s Alex and Mollie Damon did a breakdown of what they saw in the footage if you’re interested in hearing their thoughts.
There were also updates to the filming timeline for season two. Producer and showrunner Tony Gilroy said in the panel that they are predicting season two to complete filming by August 2023. With a year in post-production, season two will more than likely aim to be released in August 2024. Though Alex Damon pointed out in his video that season one of Andor was supposed to be in August 2022 before it was delayed a month to September. Regardless, late 2024 is the most likely timeline for the Andor season two release.
Season two will also have a different format from its predecessor. Unlike season one, which was one long story, season two will have multiple time jumps covering four years leading up to Rogue One. Season two will have twelve episodes; each set of three episodes covers one year, with one writing and directing team working on that group of episodes. Alex and Mollie Damon mentioned in the footage they saw that Cassian had different hairstyles, so they more than likely saw him in different years of the series.
Andor season one was a smashing success for the franchise, praised by fans and critics for its gritty portrayal of the Rebellion’s early days. It stars Diego Luna reprising his role as the titular character from Rogue One. Back again in season two will also be Stellan Skarsgård, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Faye Marsay, and Varada Sethu. Alan Tudyk has also been confirmed for season two as Cassian’s loyal droid companion K-2SO from Rogue One.
