Everything we know about Star Wars: Outlaws, the franchise’s next big game
By Meg Dowell
Just months after the release of Jedi: Survivor, Star Wars announced the franchise’s next big video game: an open-world adventure from Ubisoft, Star Wars: Outlaws.
Announced at Xbox Games Showcase this weekend, the game we’ve been hearing rumors about for quite some time is finally happening. And it’s set to be the first open-world game set in a galaxy far, far away, with new character Kay Vess leading the way.
You can watch the full YouTube trailer below.
While the game’s first trailer debuted at the Xbox Showcase, it is not exclusive to Microsoft’s console. You will also be able to purchase and paly the game on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Ubisoft is best known for the Assassin’s Creed franchise and many other long-beloved games. This will be the first game they develop set in a galaxy far, far away. And possibly not the last.
Star Wars video games have had their ups and downs over the past decade. Aside from the new Battlefront games, Squadrons, and the Jedi games (Fallen Order and Survivor), much of the new titles available to players have been free-to-play mobile-based experiences. Not that there’s anything wrong with those (says the ever-faithful/obsessed Galaxy of Heroes player).
But while games like The Old Republic have held loyal fanbases for years, we haven’t seen something quite like what Microsoft and Ubisoft are promising.
An “open world” can mean a lot of things in a game, so we’ll have to wait just a little longer to learn more about what all this actually entails.
While we’ve yet to see gameplay from the upcoming experience — set to be revealed later today — chances are it’s unlike anything Star Wars fans have seen in a game in a very long time. And maybe that’s just what we need.
Star Wars: Outlaws releases worldwide in 2024.
