Obi-Wan Kenobi to be adapted into comic series
By Aidan Burns
Just a month ago Lucasfilm revealed that there are no future plans for the Disney+ mini-series Obi-Wan Kenobi. given the Series’ 65% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it wasn’t a shock to many viewers. Regardless, it was certainly a disappointment to some. Now a month removed, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series has been confirmed to be adapted into a limited comic book series.
Starwars.com announced that Marvel will be adapting the Disney+ series as a 6-issue comic series. While it may shock the casual viewer, Marvel has been publishing Star Wars content on a consistent basis for the better part of ten years. This issue will be an addition to the hundred-plus Star Wars comics that Marvel has published. Each issue will play out an episode of The Kenobi mini-series.
Marvel has signed on experienced Star Wars comic writer, Jody Houser for this limited project. Houser was a writer for the Rogue One comic adaptation, as well as a writer for the Thrawn comic series. Houser is credited for writing over 30 Star Wars comics since 2017. With a resume that speaks for itself, Houser showed great excitement to further her writing career in Star Wars when discussing the new Kenobi adaptation.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi introduced some fantastic new characters, as well as giving us new insight into old favorites, and I hope fans enjoy seeing a familiar story play out in a whole new medium.”, Houser told Starwars.com.
The Cover for the comic issue was released along with the news. It resembles the TV posters quite strongly along with actors that were cast for the series including lead star, Ewan McGregor. The first issue is expected to be available in stores this September. This is not the only new Star Wars comic adaptation as The Mandalorian season two adaptation is releasing right around the corner on June 21st. We’ll have to wait and hear for more release information to come out but as of now, early September is the current release time for this adaptation.
