Ahsoka is off to a flying start with its premiere last week. Combined, the two episodes came out to around two hours of uninterrupted, live-action Star Wars content. It must have been a treat for fans who waited patiently for the series’ release ever since it was announced all the way back in December 2020. The episodes allowed fans to spend considerable time with every character and showed us several intimate conversations between them. This helped shed some light on where all of them had been and how they were doing now.

However, Ahsoka‘s style of storytelling is quite similar to that of Star Wars Rebels. It took the idea of being a fifth season of Rebels very seriously. Dave Filoni doesn’t seem in a hurry. Even though the narrative quickly takes viewers to the main point and introduces the key characters who will play a significant role in the series, the style of storytelling is slow and steady. This is good news for fans who might be hoping that there’s another season of the series in the works.

Rosario Dawson has already shared her hopes that the show gets greenlit for a second season. She revealed that if the show does well, then there’s definitely hope that a second season will be given the green signal. However, these first two episodes make it pretty obvious that a second season is pretty much a lock. The story has only just begun, and there’s plenty more to cover. The two-hour premiere had only a single mention of Anakin, and Hayden Christensen’s appearance is yet to come. Ezra’s return also seems unlikely to happen so soon. Even if it does happen, it will probably only be towards the end of the season, but then there’s the matter of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

A character like Thrawn deserves an entire season dedicated to just him and his strategic planning. He needs to be introduced to fans who haven’t seen Rebels and who may not have read Timothy Zahn’s books. That’s not something that can or should be rushed. After all, Thrawn will serve as the main antagonist beyond Ahsoka. Thrawn will be the formidable foe all our heroes will face off against in Dave Filoni’s Mandoverse film. It’s probably best if he is established in live-action over a period of time before the film hits the big screen.

There’s also the matter of Sabine’s training. She won’t go from a Padawan learner to a Jedi Knight overnight. It took Ezra, who was clearly Force-sensitive, several seasons to reach his full potential. Sabine, who’s obviously conflicted and seems to have no Force sensitivity, may need even more time. Along with Sabine, even Ahsoka will take time to grow as a Jedi Master, the same way Kanan took time to mature as a teacher to Ezra. As for Ahsoka, her own journey has just started.

With all things considered, it’s probably best that Ahsoka gets a second season. Ahsoka is streaming now on Disney+.
