Star Wars Hunters announces another game delay
By Meg Dowell
The previously announced free-to-play video game Star Wars Hunters is no longer releasing in 2023.
Zynga announced the delay on social media yesterday, promising a new release window when fans can expect to anticipate the game’s release. Star Wars Hunters was originally announced in 2021, and has experienced multiple delays in the past several years. It may be a little bit longer before the game finally comes to life.
The Star Wars Hunters development team expressed regret about the additional delay but promised players that the team is hard at work building the best experience possible upon release.
“There are several exciting new elements we are still working hard to get into the game before it launches worldwide,” the announcement said. “These include Ranked Mode, exciting updates to our core gameplay mechanics, and much more.”
Star Wars video games have seen a lot of success over the past few years, adding more single-player adventures such as Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor into the mix along with multiplayer-heavy experiences such as Star Wars Battlefront I & II, Squadrons, and other free-to-play mobile games such as Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. Hunters will be an exciting addition to Lucasfilm Games’ growing number of titles.
The game allows players to build teams and battle opponents in a virtual arena. It takes place following the events of Return of the Jedi and will be available on platforms such as Nintendo Switch, iOs, and Android.
Even though the game is further from release than expected, hopeful players can still introduce themselves to some of the characters and the world in which the game takes place. Earlier this year, Disney-Lucasfilm Press published Star Wars Hunters: Battle for the Arena, a novel that expands upon the concepts of the game. Mark Oshiro’s thrilling, emotional story will hold audiences over until they can finally play the game for themselves next year.
Star Wars Hunters is expected to become available sometime in 2024.
