In October 2025, Kwame Mbalia's Star Wars: The Last Order will tell a long-awaited story about Finn and Jannah after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. According to the book's official publisher's summary via Penguin Random House, the book will follow "the two former stormtroopers [as they] wrestle with their own complicated pasts as soldiers." Clearly, this is a story that has the potential to answer a lot of questions Star Wars fans have had for years.
Not every question in Star Wars is meant to be answered, of course. The name of Yoda's species, for example, will hopefully remain a mystery beyond the limited scope of our lifetimes. But this new YA novel has a lot going for it, and there are a few things in particular readers will want to know by the time they finish it.
1. Is Finn Force-sensitive or not?
Finn seemingly spent an entire movie trying -- and miserably failing -- to tell Rey about his Force-sensitivity. At least, that's what fans (and John Boyega himself) have come to believe. They left the reveal out of the movie for reasons we may never know about, but The Last Order would be a great opportunity to finally put this widespread frustration to rest.
I don't need to see Finn training as a Jedi. I don't even need to know if he and Rey ever actually finished that conversation from TROS. More insight into the possibility or even just how he perceives or experiences the Force would be enough for me. Force-sensitivity doesn't mean you have to be a Jedi. It just makes someone more in-tune with certain aspects of their surroundings. How does Finn come to understand that part of himself, and will he use it for the greater good? That's all I need to know/
2. Is Lando Jannah's dad?
We know that Lando's young daughter was kidnapped many years ago and that he has been trying to find her ever since. And he and Jannah did have that one brief scene together in which it was strictly implied -- not yet proven -- that she might be the missing daughter he's been looking for.
Jannah also knows that she was taken from her family long ago and forced to serve the First Order. This does not mean that she is Lando's daughter; it's a big galaxy, and it's also a little strange to assume two people in Star Wars are related just because they have the same skin color, are the same species, and so on. Whether he's her dad or not, though, it's been over five years; we want to know.
3. Did Rey really stay on Tatooine?
This book isn't about Rey; it's long past time for characters like Finn and Jannah to finally get a much-needed Star Wars spotlight. But Finn still presumably cares a lot about Rey even though they're on separate missions. We're bound to get even just one sentence about what she's up to at the time this story takes place ... right?
This is a little bit of a petty ask, because I'm still bitter about how many people wrongfully assumed Rey's journey to Tatooine at the end of TROS was permanent and I want them proven wrong once and for all. But it would also be nice to know where the next leg of her journey has taken her all the same. It may be Finn's turn to shine, but that doesn't mean Rey-focused stories won't come around again someday.
