Andor: Diego Luna reveals how Cassian ascends to new heights in Season 2
Diego Luna has spent the last 10 years digging deep into the life of one of the Rebellion's greatest heroes, Cassian Andor. He'll finally get to show Cassian became one of the most respected members of the Rebel Alliance.
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Diego reiterated Cassian's full commitment to the Rebellion this time around, compared with Season 1, where he's cynical and selfish. This time, we'll find Cassian in a different place as he takes on one dangerous mission after the other for the Rebel Alliance. By repeatedly putting himself on the line, Cassian will reach the top of the Alliance's list of most reliable Rebels, but the journey won't be easy because he has a mountain to climb.
"It's someone who has to ascend. There's a huge mountain for him to climb in order to become the guy we meet in Rogue One."
- Diego Luna.
The Cassian Andor of Season 1 was alone throughout his journey, but Luna confirms that Cassian's best friend, K-2SO, will be by his side every step of the way in Season 2:
"It tells you a lot about Cassian that his best friend is a droid. And a droid he had to reprogramme."
- Diego Luna.
K-2SO is no ordinary droid, but Cassian's best friend, whose sarcasm will provide a much-needed dose of humor in a show that has so far been on the serious side. The duo will travel to every corner of the galaxy on high-stakes missions, and along the way, we'll get to see some familiar locations. Tony Gilroy teases the return of Yavin 4, so we'll finally get to see how Yavin became central to the Alliance's operations.
We can only imagine where his journey takes him in Season 2, but everyone knows Cassian's final destination awaits him on Scarif. Season 2 will likely see the return of many other Rogue One heroes who sacrificed their lives for the Rebellion, but will the show allude to the person he accompanied to Scarif, Jyn Erso? With Ben Mendelsohn set to reprise his role as Orson Krennic, the likelihood of the Ersos being mentioned goes up. Galen Erso could play an important role if the show takes us behind the construction of the Death Star.
Felicity Jones' return seems doubtful, but fans have spotted an interesting parallel between a new picture of Cassian from Season 2 and a shot of Jyn and Cassian in Rogue One.
Andor Season 2 premieres April 22, 2025 on Disney+.
