Though there's no news of a second season of The Book of Boba Fett, there is Boba Fett news nonetheless. The ruthless bounty hunter turned crime syndicate leader is getting a new comic miniseries, a unique color scheme, and four new stories you aren't going to want to miss.
Star Wars: Boba Fett — Black, White & Red -- out this fall -- is a four-issue miniseries composed of standalone stories by different writers. This follows the same format as the two previous series in this format, Star Wars: Darth Vader — Black, White & Red and Star Wars: Darth Maul — Black, White & Red.
The first issue and standalone story in the series, written by Benjamin Percy, takes place during the Galactic Civil War era and features Fett trying to complete a mission with both the Empire and Rebellion trying to intervene.
I'm not the biggest Boba Fett fan; he's a lot like Darth Vader in that we've gotten arguably enough stories featuring him as a main legacy character for one lifetime. But I do like the unique style and format of the Black, White & Red series, and just because he's not my favorite character (there are a lot of characters in Star Wars to choose from) does not mean writers can't still tell compelling, memorable stories about him.
This is also Marvel Comics, after all. When it comes to Star Wars, sometimes the legacy characters have to carry the success of a series or two before other characters can step in and get the spotlight. This is also Star Wars, where so often a story titled after one character is about much more than just that one character. There have been plenty of compelling comic characters who have emerged as fan-favorites from legacy characters' comics. I'm looking at you, Doctor Aphra. You made it out from under Vader's title series and are now on a third of your own. Good job!
There will likely be a few hidden gems in this series and any others that might follow. Though it would be nice to give some other quality characters the Black, White & Red opportunity. Perhaps some women? We'll see.
Star Wars: Boba Fett — Black, White & Red releases its first issue on September 17. You can pre-order your copy online or at your local comic shop.
