She was about three or four when my daughter Brooklyn first saw Star Wars Resistance. She would go around quoting Torra Doza, saying, "I'm an Ace Pilot!" It was actually one of her first complete sentences. Now, as the weather in Buffalo continues to not stop snowing, I've decided to rewatch the series with her.

We completed the first two episodes, and she remembered many of the characters, such as Torra and Neeku Vozo. It was enjoyable to catch up on a show that I had not watched since it had first come out and a perfect follow-up after our family just finished Skeleton Crew.

Brooklyn's biggest excitement was, of course, also seeing both BB-8 and Princess Leia in the pilot episode. This was just off the heels of me taking her to the Return of the Jedi concert (which you can read Brooklyn's review here), and she was asking questions as to where Princess Leia was.

Her excitement at seeing BB-8 brought back memories to when she was younger. It was the first Halloween costume she picked on her own, and I have to give Disney credit. Ever since they purchased the franchise, in every series or film they take on, they've been able to create a cute droid that children love.

As we were watching Resistance, Brooklyn was curious if the Torra would race the main character, Kazuda "Kaz" Xiono. She was happy they both lived at the end of the race, which sets the stage for the remainder of the series. Brooklyn was excited to find out what happened to all of the characters.

Despite being a family series, one of the strengths I recall is the character growth from the core case in the series. Many of them, including Neeku and Jarek Yeager whom she met in the first two episodes, go through interesting journies.

I also recall the strength and growth of the female characters that Brooklyn can look up to while we watch the series. There is more to Torra besides her uttering the line that Brooklyn loved to say. Season 2 will bring in Torra's mother, Rebellion veteran Venisa Doza, and the pirate turned resistance fighter Synara San are also fantastic characters that Brooklyn can find a lot to gain from.

Eventually, the weather will finally turn nice in Buffalo, and hopefully, we'll be able to play outside. But until then, I am very much looking forward to watching how the Resistance begins in this family fun series with my daughter.
