Daisy Ridley is the right actress to lead the franchise forward
It was announced that the actress known for playing Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Daisy Ridley, will be a part of the next trilogy of films. Her role is set to play the same that Alec Guinness portrayed in the original trilogy as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ridley was only 22 when she was announced to star in the sequel trilogy and has had an impressive career thus far. She is the perfect choice to return and be the anchor for the upcoming slate of films.
In The Force Awakens, she worked with Harrison Ford throughout the film. Ford, returning as Han Solo, was a strong mentor to the Rey character in the movie. Now, with her own stand-alone movie and then the three to follow, it would make sense for the actress to follow in Ford's footsteps in the upcoming movies.
The character of Rey had much depth and personality, brought to life by Ridley throughout the new trilogy. The character, as well as the actress herself, came into her own and became confident over the course of three films, which inspired new fans of the franchise. Ridley also has shown great range as an actress in Star Wars and other projects since 2015.
Over the past year, her roles in Disney's Young Woman and the Sea and the thriller Magpie have demonstrated Ridley's maturity, depth of abilities, and growth since she helmed the role of Rey.
In Young Woman and the Sea, the British actress, portrayed Trudy Ederle, the first woman to swim the English Channel. It was a strong and inspirational role for Ridley and should garner her some attention around awards season. Magpie also had Ridley as producer. It shows how long she has come in so short time since she put down her lightsaber in 2019.
In 2017, Ridley took on her second feature role and first after her Star Wars debut. It was in Murder on the Orient Express, directed by Kenneth Branagh. Branagh said he knew Ridley could handle the role, even if working in front such famous actors Dame Judi Dench and William Dafoe. Branagh also recalled about her scene working with Dafoe, "I said to Daisy that she could certainly pull out a lightsaber and toast him where it hurts."
When Ridley needs to pull her lightsaber out again, this time, she will be more ready than ever and will also be the bridge that unites every trilogy of films.
