Dedra Meero and Director Krennic will clash in Andor Season 2
It's Andor Christmas! Empire Magazine not only revealed their November cover giving us our first look at Ben Mendelsohn's Director Krennic in Season 2, but we are getting more information about some of the character interactions as well.
In a peek at an interview with the cape man himself, Mendelsohn teased that Krennic is on a crash course with Dedra Meero, played by Denise Gough. “Dedra versus Krennic? I think it’s a bit of a mismatch. They’re all underlings to Krennic," says Mendelsohn.
While this quote highlights Krennic's point of view, we know from Season 1 how overly ambitious Dedra is. She did not take guff from anybody, even pushing back against her superiors when needed. Why should Krennic be any different? In fact, what we know about Krennic from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and novels like Thrawn: Treason, Krennic's frivolousness is probably something that Dedra won't put up with.
Not that Krennic would take any smart mouthing from Dedra laying down. We know he's cutthroat, even manipulating his longtime friend, Galen Erso. Krennic is, if anything, extremely petty and selfish. If Dedra challenges him in any way, Krennic will not be happy, especially if she starts sniffing around in Project Stardust, Krennic most important project.
I have a feeling that the more we see Dedra's career rise in Season 2, the more of a problem she's going to be for the higher-up Imperials around her. Major Partagaz favored her throughout Season 1, but will that continue? If she opposes him, will he be open to manipulation from Krennic? Mendelsohn mentions that they will be working together, but that doesn't mean it will be a happy union, saying, "They’re all going in one direction. The Empire, if you speak your mind, there are differences of opinion.”
The Empire might be coming together to stand against the rising Rebellion, but they certainly don't like it. It never crossed my mind that Dedra would be on a crash course with Director Krennic. I really hope we see Krennic try and mansplain something to her, just so I can watch Denise Gough's excellent, disgusted acting.
Season 2 of Andor can't come soon enough. It debuts on Disney+ on April 22, 2025.
