In Season 2, episode 1, "One Year Later," as we catch up with Mon Mothma preparing for her daughter's wedding, she touches base with her attaché Erskin Semaj. Star Wars Rebels fans jumped at the Easter egg. Erskin made his first appearance in the franchise in the Rebels Season 3 episode "Secret Cargo," which is one of the most historic episodes for the Star Wars timeline. It's also why we advised people to watch "Secret Cargo" prior to Andor Season 2.

In "Secret Cargo," Mon Mothma had denounced the Emperor and officially defected after the Ghorman Massacre. She went on the run as she was hunted by Imperials for treason. Erskin fled with her to help protect the Rebellion leader. The two of them, along with Gold Squadron, met up with the Ghost crew, led by Hera Syndulla. Together, the Ghost crew and Gold Squadron got Mon and Erskin to safety on Dantooine. Here, Mon Mothma delivered a powerful speech to pull together the rebel cells and officially declare the Rebel Alliance. It's a historic moment in Star Wars history, making "Secret Cargo" one of the most important episodes.

While Erskin was voiced by Star Wars Resistance's Josh Brener in Rebels, Pierro Niel-Mee has taken over the role in live action for Andor. In this latest show, we learn some facts about Erskin, which sets up a very interesting story for him later in the season.

During the events of Leida Mothma's three-day wedding extravaganza, at one point, Erskin chats with other guests. We learn that he was born on Naboo, but his parents were Chandrilan and Ghorman. He came to work for Mon after the death of his own mother.

The Ghorman angle is interesting, as we know from these first few episodes in Season 2 and from trailers that the Ghorman Massacre, the event that caused Mon to defect, is coming. This gives Erskin a direct connection to one of the biggest events in galactic history. He, along with Mon, has every right to be angered by what is bound to happen, which drives him to defect as well. That's such an interesting little note that adds so much more to this background character from Rebels.

We'll have to wait and see how the rest of Erskin Semaj's story plays out in Andor. Season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
