Kylo Ren seeks answers about Darth Vader's past in Star Wars: Legacy of Vader

One unknown part of the sequel trilogy is Kylo Ren's time as the Supreme Leader of the First Order. We'll finally get answers to this point in his life thanks to an upcoming comic book series!

Announced by StarWars.com, the series Star Wars: Legacy of Vader will arrive on February 5, 2025. It will be written by Charles Soule, who penned the 2019 miniseries The Rise of Kylo Ren. The artist for the series will be Luke Ross. The series will be set in the back half of the sequel trilogy, between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, as Kylo Ren seeks answers about his past.

The series will start with Ren exploring his grandfather's castle on Mustafar, a place that fans of Soule's 2017 run of Darth Vader will be very familiar with. StarWars.com confirms that later issues will focus on Ren looking for answers about his family's past on Tatooine. A big focus of the series will be Kylo Ren's desire to connect with Darth Vader.

Soule shared his excitement about telling the story of Kylo Ren in this time period and why it's so rich for storytelling to StarWars.com, saying, "Kylo is truly lost at this particular moment. In a very short span of time, he's faced two of his most significant mentors in combat (one of whom is his uncle), killed his own father, almost killed his mother, stolen control of a galaxy-level military that he has no idea how he'll use, and of course, found a deep connection with another Force-user named Rey. All of that is swirling around in his emotional matrix, making him deeply unstable, angry, frustrated... dangerous. He's looking for any form of guidance he can get — even if he won't admit it — and so he turns to just about the only thing he's got left, the legacy of his grandfather, the Sith Lord Darth Vader."

This is an incredibly smart choice for a comic series. As the Marvel Comics line as a whole moves into a post-Return of the Jedi timeline, it was hard to think they would leave behind such a big fan favorite character like Darth Vader. This allows him to be part of this era of comics.

Star Wars: Legacy of Vader arrives on February 5, 2025 in a local comic book store near you or wherever you get your digital comics.
