Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Star Wars has revealed more information about the next wave of comics, kicking off the post-Return of the Jedi era. Now we get our first look at the maxi-series that will bring an end to the Galactic Civil War with Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Insurgency Rising. The series begins on October 2.
StarWars.com revealed the first details, along with the four comic covers of the series, illustrated by Phil Noto. The plot of issue one states, "IN THE WAKE OF THE BATTLE OF ENDOR, CAN LUKE, LEIA AND THE NASCENT NEW REPUBLIC STAVE OFF AN UNEXPECTED — AND DEADLY — NEW THREAT?
A DEFIANT IMPERIAL takes center stage — and goes on the offensive against the NEW REPUBLIC! LEIA makes a startling discovery in the forests of ENDOR! Who are the mysterious and deadly ACOLYTES OF THE BEYOND?! What is the new villain’s connection to DARTH VADER? All this as the post-Return of the Jedi storytelling BEGINS!"
They've teased these stories with the announcement back in June that the current runs of Star Wars and Darth Vader will end in September. Then, just a few days ago, they revealed the image of Vader's broken helmet from the sequel trilogy to indicate that the next wave of stories would be in that time period.
Fans of the mobile game Star Wars: Uprising also noticed the cover of Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Insurgency Rising #1 featured a surprise character from the game. Governor Ubrik Adelhard is on the cover, setting up the villain to play some sort of role in the comic series.
Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Insurgency Rising #1 arrives at your local comic book stores and on digital on October 2. You can see Phil Noto's covers for issues 2-4 below. Stay up to date with all Star Wars comic book news here at Dork Side of the Force!
