LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy tells the story of a young, Force-sensitive boy named Sig whose discovery of a mysterious Jedi artifact leads to his entire galaxy being scrambled. The heroes he once looked up to are now the villains of the Star Wars universe, including his brother, Dev. Sig, along with some new companions, attempts a daring mission to put his galaxy back together again.
In this miniseries, the new characters encounter fan-favorite Jedi and Sith, whose allegiances have now flip-flopped. Amid the excitement of fights and wacky character swaps, it is a sweet story of the relationship between the two brothers, as Sig fights to save the person he cares for most. Here are my rankings for the four episodes, from best to worst.
1. Part 2
The introduction of Darth Jar Jar, a reference to a fun fan theory, was enough to put this episode at the top for me. This episode is when all of the fun twists become apparent, from Ewok bounty hunters to pod-racer Luke Skywalker to a band of evil Sith made up of former Star Wars heroes (in defiance of the Sith Rule of Two!). The episode is full of great references and jokes, but it also does a wonderful job of world-building. I loved the creative introduction of Force Builders and Sith Breakers as a way to connect LEGO to the story.
2. Part 3
This episode continues the entertaining universe twists by showing us a Jedi Council made up of former villains, including Jedi Palpatine and a light side Vader. As Sig's new allies journey to Dagobah to replace the Cornerstone and rescue their trapped companions, tensions rise and a few betrayals come to light. The conflict of the episode leads up to startling revelations and ends with a big cliffhanger.
3. Part 4
The relationship between Sig and Dev is one of the best parts of the show, and in this episode, there is hope that they will one day find their way back to being brothers again. Sig finally accepts his role as a hero and a Jedi in the new galaxy. While I enjoyed this episode, it was also a bit unsatisfying.
The ending felt unfinished as if I was left hanging on a few plot points. If Dev and Sig were able to recreate their former home, it was unclear to me why they couldn't fully restore the other universe. It was also a bit startling how many characters seemed to die during the final battle. While this episode wasn't my favorite in the bunch, it had a lot of heartfelt moments that made it shine.
4. Part 1
LEGO Star Wars has a great tradition of including jokes that poke fun at the original source material. The introduction to Rebuild the Galaxy features a hilarious retelling of Star Wars history, setting the scene for the chaos that occurs later in the series. However, despite a few fun moments, this episode is mainly focused on introducing the characters and laying the groundwork for the plot. On its own, this episode is the most forgettable of the bunch.
Overall, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is an enjoyable miniseries that can appeal to Star Wars fans of any age. Even the first episode, ranked in last place, made me smile. All episodes of Rebuild the Galaxy are available on Disney Plus if you want to enjoy and rank them for yourself.
