It's tough navigating social media platforms these days if you're a fan of anything that's not named Andor. Places like Twitter, or X, depending on which one you prefer, are full of doubters, and recently, a viral Mandoverse rumor was met by an unenthusiastic response.
Via Mandoverse Updates on Twitter, a new unconfirmed rumor from insider Daniel Richtman suggests that Lucasfilm is keen on greenlighting a Mandalorian trilogy. IfThe Mandalorian and Grogu is a success, it may open the door for several other movies set in the same time period. This is the second time Richtman has reported Lucasfilm's desire for a Mandalorian trilogy on the big screen. However, rumors of more movies in the New Republic era is the only new piece of information.
🚨Lucasfilm really wants to do a Mandalorian trilogy assuming the film is a success. If ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ is a success not only will a trilogy be greenlit but also more movies set in the ‘Mandoverse’ will be greenlit too🚨

It has already been confirmed that Dave Filoni is working on a crossover film set in The Mandalorian's timeline, but nothing to suggest that there could be more. With The Mandalorian possibly getting a trilogy, other films could shift focus to characters like Boba Fett, Jod Na Nawood, Wim, Neel, Fern, KB, Ahsoka Tano, Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, and more.
Regardless of what the rumor suggests, there's simply no confirmation and likely won't be any until sometime next year when The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres. If it performs well or exceeds expectations, Lucasfilm will naturally be compelled to greenlight more movies starring Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin and the young Grogu. It also depends on what Jon Favreau's plans are for these two.
Djarin and Grogu are original characters created by Favreau, and he has gone on record with his plans for a fourth season of The Mandalorian. Faveau once admitted that he could see the show going at least 5 seasons, and he called the end of Season 3 the middle chapter of a much larger story. This shows that he has plans that have yet to unfold, and Lucasfilm may want them to come to light on the big screen, as that is more profitable for Disney.
Ultimately, Disney runs a business, and it needs money; Star Wars movies have a way of drawing in big audiences. It's surprising to read replies under this rumor, as fans are apparently sick of having Din, Grogu, and Ahsoka in everything. I'm not sure when and where these characters became so unpopular, but it's a sad turn of events. Ahsoka season 1 certainly wasn't perfect, but Dave Filoni has an opportunity to improve upon it. Who knows, perhaps fans will be pleasantly surprised by season 2.
Additionally, saying that Din and Grogu are being forced on fans is a little unfair. The Mandalorian season 3 ended in April of 2023. It's been over 2 years since its finale, and over a year since the movie was announced, but Lucasfilm has done nothing to promote the next Star Wars movie. The Star Wars official social media accounts have maintained silence on the 5th anniversary of The Mandalorian's premiere on Disney+, and fans of the series often feel ignored by the Star Wars official social media accounts.
Fans had pinned all their hopes of an official trailer for next year's Mando movie on the recent Destination D23, which proved to be in vain. Disney screened the same footage from Star Wars Celebration 2025, and to the disappointment of fans, didn't release it online.
The bottom line is, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and the Mandoverse projects aren't being forced on anyone. There are plans for future Star Wars movies set in other eras, and so far, Lucasfilm hasn't lifted a finger to promote next year's movie release. Therefore, the hue and cry over an unconfirmed rumor is bewildering.
The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres May 22, 2026.
