Are you ready to explore that galaxy so far, far away? Everyone's favorite space story is set to add to its legacy in 2026 with some major new titles, which will undoubtedly make up for a relatively quiet period for the Star Wars franchise. And it will all start with the saga's return to the movies, as this year will indeed offer up the first theatrical release from the Lucasfilm juggernaut since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.
Since 2020, Star Wars has found a home on Disney Plus, with an abundance of streaming TV shows filling out the landscape and exploring new stories in that legendary universe. But, with a number of them winding down and Disney making the slow pivot back to the movies. it's time for some of our faves to go up, up, and away to the silver screen. But that doesn't mean we won't have any TV shows to look forward to as well.
Here's everything that you can expect from Star Wars this year.

The Mandalorian and Grogu
Release date: May 22, 2026
Star Wars' most chaotic duo returns for another adventure that is sure to thrill fans of the beloved TV series they made their debut in. Yep, that's right; Din Djarin and Grogu are back for their biggest tale as the stars of The Mandalorian now take to the silver screen after three seasons of thrilling us on the small screen. But Pedro Pascal and his little green friend known the world over as "Baby Yoda" aren't alone, as they will be joined by the likes of Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and James Coyne. Dave Filoni also reprises his role as X-Wing pilot Trapper Wolf.
It's unclear why Disney and Lucasfilm opted to bring The Mandalorian and Grogu to the big screen after their success on the Disney Plus streaming service had easily paved the way for a fourth season of The Mandalorian, but it is likely down to everyone's desire to move Star Wars back to the movies. Furthermore, given how expensive the series is to produce, a successful theatrical run will undoubtedly allow all involved to make a lot of that money back much quicker than a long-term streaming success story might. Who knows, if it's really successful, it could lead to all of the Mando-Verse's stories going to theaters.

Maul: Shadow Lord
Release window: 2026
One of Star Wars' most evil warriors returns to screens in Maul: Shadow Lord - and this time, he's getting the villainous spotlight all to himself. That's right, Darth Maul is back for an animated Disney Plus series that will explore the infamous menace as he looks to lead some factions within the Star Wars Underworld. That can only mean good things, right?!
Sam Witwer returns to voice the character, reprising his role from both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, meaning that it will essentially act as a sequel series / spinoff to those iconic properties. That alone makes this one worth watching, as well as the fact that we will finally get to see one of the franchise's most underrated characters in a capacity that we've never seen him in before: The leading role.

Ahsoka season 2
Release window: 2026
Rosario Dawson returns as the beloved Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano in the long-awaited second season of the Mandalorian spinoff. It's been almost three years since Ahsoka premiered on Disney Plus, so it's safe to say that Star Wars fans are ready for more. Although the landscape of the franchise has changed significantly since then - mostly because Star Wars is heading back to movie theaters - there is still a lot of excitement for the heavily-anticipated sophomore installment of Ahsoka.
There has been some confusion as to when exactly it might premiere due to the show's recent omission from a 2026 release slate preview kit email from Disney, but as the Disney Plus streaming service recently listed it under its "Coming in 2026" section, we'll take that as confirmation that the plan for a release sometime this year still stands.

Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi
Release window: 2026
Perhaps the most intriguing new title on the franchise's release calendar, Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi is a limited spinoff series of the critically-acclaimed animated series Star Wars: Visions focusing on the universe we entered in two episodes throughout that show's run. It was announced at Star Wars Celebration in Japan last year and, since then, all has been quiet on it. The good side of that is that the mystery surrounding it has ensured it has remained at the front of fans' minds.
Spun out of the season 1 episode "The Ninth Jedi" and the season 3 episode "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope", it looks to expand the story of Kara and Juro, adding new depth to it and explaining the lore in a way that Visions' standalone episodic format could not. Given how thrilling each of those aforementioned episodes are, we can't wait to dive into this alternate Star Wars world all over again.
