The legendary actor Mark Hamill, who famously portrayed Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, just made a cryptic post on the social media platform Twitter that instantly fueled Star Wars speculation.

Mark Hamill cryptically teases new movie which fuels Star Wars speculation

In the tweet, Hamill said, "This tweet will gain in significance when the movie I start today is publicly announced."

Of course, it should be noted off the bat that this is not any sort of announcement from Hamill that he will be involved in a future Star Wars project. It could very well be a case of Hamill having some fun by teasing Star Wars fans when he is actually beginning filming on a movie that has nothing to do with Star Wars. Hamill has even said publicly that he feels there is no need for Luke in future Star Wars stories.

However, being Star Wars fans, we cannot help but take the bait and imagine what role Hamill could have in an upcoming Star Wars film. If he were to reprise his role as Luke, there are three upcoming movies in which he could do so.

The one in which Hamill would most likely be playing Luke without any sort of deep-fake technology is the upcoming post-Episode IX film in which Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role as Rey. This film will explore Rey's attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order. It would make sense to see Hamill appear in this film as Luke's Force ghost, providing wisdom or advice to Rey. Perhaps we could also see Luke in flashback sequences in this film.

The other two upcoming Star Wars films in which Hamill could appear as Luke are The Mandalorian & Grogu, as well as Dave Filoni's film, which will explore the New Republic in the same time period as The Mandalorian, so roughly five years after Return of the Jedi.

We know that Luke trained Grogu, so it could make some sense to see him in The Mandalorian & Grogu in some capacity, even though Grogu left his training to be with his adoptive father, Din Djarin. It would also make sense to see him in Dave Filoni's movie since Filoni has suggested this will be a big moment in the post-Return of the Jedi era. If it is a big moment, then it would not be surprising to see major characters like Luke, Han Solo, and Leia Organa show up.

Of course, if Hamill were to appear in these last two projects, it would probably be in an advisory role similar to the one he played in The Book of Boba Fett with actor Graham Hamilton. Hamill was on set and would do the scenes as himself before Hamilton did them. Then, in post-production, ILM used deep-fake technology to make Hamilton's face resemble that of a young Mark Hamill.

Again, this is all just speculation as there has been no formal announcement that Hamill will reprise his role as Luke. It is still fun to think about Hamill playing the character, even if his post ends up being him teasing Star Wars fans.
