A new comic miniseries focusing on the Ewoks will soon be coming our way, and it looks spectacular. The four-issue Marvel series will be called Star Wars: Ewoks, and it will take place shortly after Return of the Jedi. Throughout the series, the Ewoks must defend the Forest Moon of Endor from vicious bounty hunters who are determined to get their hands on a precious stockpile of Imperial weaponry.
Writer Steve Orlando recently granted an interview to GamesRadar+ about the comic series, and he dropped a plethora of intriguing details. He revealed that after the events of Return of the Jedi, the Ewoks start to consider the possibility of establishing ties with beings from other worlds and with the other sentient beings that live on the Forest Moon of Endor.
The series will no doubt grant us an insight into how Ewoks view their role within the larger galaxy, which should be fascinating for fans. Orlando also confirmed that alongside Wicket Wystri Warrick, who will serve as the main protagonist, various other established Ewoks will appear, including Teebo, Chief Chirpa, Princess Kneesaa, and Logray, with the elusive female Ewok warrior known as Asha also set to make an appearance. Also, a new Ewok character named Meedro will be introduced, with fans no doubt already eager to learn more about him.
In addition to showcasing new regions of the Forest Moon of Endor, the comic will also explore the love that Ewoks feel towards the forested home and their dedication to protecting it at all costs, with their sheer resilience and bravery no doubt being on display. Since the Ewoks will be speaking a mixture of Ewokese and Galactic Basic Standard throughout the book, readers will no doubt be amused at their undoubtedly awkward attempts to communicate with individuals who will have difficulty understanding them.
The interview featured a page from the comic in which a member of the Dulok species (who are distantly related to the Ewoks) was shown wounding an Imperial officer with a spear. The blood which was shown seeping from the officer’s wound indicates that this comic will be aiming for a relatively mature tone despite the juvenile reputation of the Ewoks. We also saw from the page that Zuckuss and 4-LOM, a bounty hunting duo introduced in The Empire Strikes Back, will appear in the book. At this rate, it certainly seems like this will be a series that fans will not be able to ignore.
Star Wars: Ewoks will be illustrated by Álvaro López and Laura Braga, and the first issue will be released by Marvel on October 9, 2024.
