Sigourney Weaver confirmed to be playing a part in The Mandalorian and Grogu

Sigourney Weaver has been a fixture in science-fiction films for decades, whether as the dauntless Ellen Ripley in James Cameron's Alien or as Dr. Grace Augustine in James Cameron's Avatar. She has been a possessed cellist in Ghostbusters and The Warden in Holes. My personal favorite is her turn as Gwen/Tawny in the love letter to geek culture known as GalaxyQuest. Now, after plenty of speculation, we know that she is absolutely going to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Weaver gave an interview with Andreas Wiseman at Deadline in which she confirms the truth behind a rumor that this site has been following since May. She is at the Venice Film Festival for the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.

Asked about her next film, she responded, "I'm playing a role in The Mandalorian and Grogu [which will be directed by Jon Favreau]...I'm filming that before I go to London for The Tempest at the end of the year." She has confirmed that she has met Grogu already and teases fans everywhere:

"I'm looking forward to it. I can't say much about it right now but it's fun to bounce between all these universes."

Speaking of the award she is to receive, she waxed poetic on its significance. It is one that she presented two years ago and she remarks that "I was initially told that I had no talent when I studied drama at Yale, which I'm grateful for because it meant I've charged into all these different areas." She had this to say about what it means:

"I want to say how grateful I am to the festival for this wonderful award because for me, it represents an embrace of actors who aren't willing to be put in a box. It's a recognition of being able to adventure all over the place in the odd way I have done in my career."

With so many unusual roles behind her, we of the Star Wars fandom are looking forward to what she brings to The Mandalorian universe.
