Diego Luna says Andor season 2 will completely change how we see Rogue One

The second season of Andor will give a whole new meaning to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the sacrifices made by its heroes, says Diego Luna.

Fans were disappointed when underrated fan-favorite robot K-2SO, whose heroic sacrifice made it possible for Diego Luna's Cassian Andor and Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso to steal the Death Star plans in Rogue One, did not appear in Andor Season 1. The sarcastic, reprogrammed Imperial droid will finally make his streaming debut on Disney+ with the second season in 2025.

His appearance in the show and several other elements will help draw the "full circle" for the arc that started with the 2016 movie. Itself a prequel to A New Hope, the story of Rogue One was dragged further back with Andor, unraveling the many cogs in the complex wheel of the Rebellion.

Speaking about the new season, Luna told Entertainment Weekly that it would make Star Wars fans see Rogue One in a completely new light.

"I think people watching Rogue One, after watching Season 2, are going to see a different film. Everything will be signified differently knowing what had to happen for K-2 to be there. It's going to make you witness the journey of Rogue One in a different way, I think. And not just with K-2, but with many other characters. I think it'll be really cool."

Luna said we will also see why K-2SO becomes such an important character for the rebels in Rogue One. He added that it was "delicious" to work with Alan Tudyk, who plays K-2SO in both the movie and the series, and to "fulfill the full circle" of the equation shared by their characters.

That being said, Luna seemed to have very high hopes for Andor Season 2, saying, "I'm sure someone from Lucasfilm and Disney will give us the opportunity to watch Season 2 and then go straight to watch the film on a big screen with tons of popcorn and friends around."

While Season 2 still has no release date, it will air sometime in 2025 and is expected to edge the story closer to the movie. Luna said at D23 Expo 2024 that it will follow Andor over a period of four years "as he grows into the hero we see make the ultimate sacrifice in Rogue One."

"In this season, the stakes are greater, enemies more organized, and clock is ticking. Empire threat grows, Andor has a high purpose, freedom and a better tomorrow."

Along with K-2SO, another movie character to make his small screen debut with the second season is Ben Mendelsohn's Orson Krennic, appearing as the symbol of the Galactic Empire's threat. Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera will also return.

Andor Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ in early 2025.
