Star Wars: The Acolyte’s first episode kicked off with a bang and a mystery with a Jedi Master getting killed. Osha, an ex-Jedi who left the Order, is thought to be the culprit. However, she suspects her twin sister, Mae, is alive after surviving a horrific fire. The only person who believes Osha is her old master, Sol.
Let’s see what happens next. Let’s recap everything you missed in The Acolyte Season 1, episode 2, “Revenge/Justice.”
We open on the planet of Olega at the Jedi Temple outpost there. A little girl throws a ball at the sensor droid out front. She follows Mae's orders, who disables the droid and pays the girl before she goes in.
Mae slinks through the hallways, avoiding the other Jedi and blending in with the civilians. She finds a floating meditating Jedi named Master Torbin. She uses the same lead she used with Indara in episode 1, “Lost/Found,” to try and get Torbin to attack her.
Torbin doesn’t attack and continues to meditate. Mae attacks him, but the Force is all around Torbin. It makes a barrier that her fists and knives can’t get through.
Suddenly, other Jedi are aware of the break-in and are coming in the hallways. Mae flees out of the top of the ceiling.
Back on the snowy planet of Carlac, we pick up with Mae’s twin sister Osha, who is in the custody of her ex-Jedi Master Sol, his current padawan Jecki Lon, and her once friend, Jedi Knight Yord Fandar. Jecki is struggling with some ship controls, so Osha offers advice. The controls work for Jecki, and the two women begin to talk. She introduces Jecki to her little pocket droid, Pip, too.
Sol passes through, making them both fall silent. Yord meets Sol in the hallway and protests that they’re not restraining Osha, who has escaped custody before. Yord mentions that even if this so-called “twin theory” was true, what if Osha works with Mae?
Sol calls out Yord’s fear, which is affecting his judgement on the matter.
Sol calls into Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh, who is overseeing the investigation of Indara’s death and sent Sol’s team on the mission in episode 1. He tells her of Mae and the theory that she's the culprit. Finally, Vernestra believes him because someone matching Osha’s description broke into a Jedi Temple the previous night. And Osha was with Sol during this time.
Vernestra give Sol permission to investigate the break in and to take Osha with him.
Yord is against Osha coming with them to Olega. Osha brings up that she knows Torbin, just as she knew Indara. Sol shuts down Yord’s concern, pulling a bit of rank on him. With that, they set course for Olega.
Back on the planet, Mae moves through the streets until she comes to the shop owned by Qimir, who is sleeping in the back of his shop. She throws a cup at him to wake him up. Mae questions his clothes, and it turns out this place is not actually his shop. He "took" the clothes and the shop from the owner to “blend in.”
Qimir knows she was trying to kill a Jedi the night before. She’s frustrated, thinking the Jedi is impenetrable. So, she wants him to make her a poison.
Apparently, Mae is on some sort of timer to get these kills done. She needs to kill Torbin fast. Qimir pokes fun that she will never be able to kill the Wookiee Jedi next. She only has two more Jedi left to kill after Torbin to please her master.
He makes them both drinks, waxing poetic that the so-called peace that the Jedi stand for is a lie. He brews his concoction, making her a poison in the process. Before she leaves, Mae tells Qimir not to tell “him” about this transaction.
Back with the Jedi, Sol asks Osha about her tattoo she got one night with her crew. She jokes that he hates it. He quips back that it doesn’t matter what he likes. They discuss Mae possibly being the killer, even though they both apparently saw Mae die 16 years ago.
Sol admits that he wanted to save both girls, but he could only rescue Osha the night her family died. He made peace with what happened that night; Osha has not and still carries the trauma and grief. Sol admits he might not have been a very good teacher.
Their ship is approaching Olega and swoops in to land in the town. They head to the Jedi Temple, where they are greeted by another temple Jedi. While they get the story of what happened the previous night, Mae returns for Torbin, slipping in through the ceiling.
Mae asks if Torbin remembers her. He took the Barash Vow, “an oath taken by Jedi who completely refrained from all activities related to the Jedi Order as a form of penitence, disengaging from anything but the Force itself, committing themselves to gaining ultimate communion with it” (shout out to Wookieepedia!). She knows why he took the vow ten years ago to escape his past. She gives him an ultimatum:
Torbin can confess his crime to the Jedi Council or drink the poison to receive forgiveness. Torbin opens his eyes and drops to the ground. He says he’s been waiting for Mae all this time.
Sol wants to speak to Torbin, and the Jedi welcome them to the temple. While moving through the hallways, Osha sees a vision of young Mae. She dashes off to follow while Yord watches her go.
Back with Mae, Torbin asks for forgiveness, saying he thought they were doing the right thing. With that, he willingly takes the poison. Through the Force, Sol senses the disturbance. He sprints ahead.
Osha has beaten them, though, finding the poison bottle, and Torbin is dead. Mae is gone. The ceiling is also open. Everyone else rushes in, which looks really bad for Osha, finding her over a dead body.
Thankfully, Yord quickly clears her as he followed her through the back way.
The group analyzes Torbin’s body, realizing there was no struggle: Torbin killed himself.
Osha also recognizes the poison, that it’s made from a leaf that grows on her home planet.
The Jedi scope out the nearby apothecary and the local Jedi do not recognize Qimir. Yord wants to make this elaborate plan to capture Qimir, bring him back to the ship, and question him. Jecki, on the other hand, says they should just use Osha. If this guy sold to Mae and they’re twins, Osha can just walk right in and talk to the guy while the Jedi record it. It would also get them a confession that Mae is the culprit.
Sol agrees with the padawan’s plan, which makes Yord look a bit put off. They move out with their plan, with Pip recording under Osha's cloak.
Osha enters the shop, where Qimir does call her by Mae's name and brings up the poison. Qimir notes how strange Osha is acting, though, and brings up the mysterious “him” again. With the info they need, the Jedi move out to extract Osha.
This is a good move because Qimir realizes that the woman before him is not Mae. The Jedi rush in and surround him. Qimir quickly tries to bluff his way out of this.
Sol brings up the mysterious “he” they heard over the comm and wants to know if that’s Mae’s master. Qimir feints that he has no idea what’s happening; he’s just the supplier. He admits that she wants revenge on four specific Jedi. Mae will be returning that night because Qimir has some of her things. The Jedi move out to prepare for Mae’s arrival.
That night, everyone is in position. The plan is to let Sol confront Mae alone. However, Osha wants to see her sister. Not for a sweet reunion but because Mae killed their family; Osha is still angry at that. Sol tries to guide her to let her grief go, but Osha wants her justice.
Sol calls it revenge. He couldn’t save Mae as a child. He wants to try and save her now. With that, he begins to leave. Osha stops him and notes that Mae wants to kill the four Jedi who were stationed on her home planet 16 years ago. The four Jedi were Indara, Torbin, another named Kelnacca, and Sol. Sol is a target.
He tells her to have faith in Mae and in him. With that, he leaves to face the young assassin.
Yord spots Mae coming towards Qimir’s shop. Jecki readies their ship. The plan is in motion as Sol calls out Mae’s name. She attacks him, and the two begin to brawl. With each pass, he slowly disarms her of her knives and keeps her out of reach of his lightsaber. He wants to know who trained her. During the battle, everyone else listens in on comms.
Sol pins Mae with the Force. He sees in her mind that her master hides his identity so much that even Mae doesn’t know who the mysterious master is or what he looks like. She breaks free from his hold, pulling another hidden knife out.
Mae reveals that she thinks Osha is dead. When Sol says that Osha is very much alive, Mae calls him a liar and attacks him in a rage. But Yord interferes, ripping the knife from her hand. He confirms that Osha is alive. The Jedi surround Mae, and Sol offers his hand to Mae.
Throwing her hands down with the Force, she kicks up the dirt around them to mask her escape. Mae flees into the night. Osha hears this over the comms and heads out to find her sister.
While trying to steal a speeder from a civilian, Mae stops when Osha comes out of the alley, pointing a blaster at her twin. Mae looks in shock to see the sister, who she thought was dead, calling her the nickname “Oshie.”
Osha hesitates, missing her chance to stun her sister. Mae flees in the speeder, getting away as Sol and Yord arrive at the scene.
Back on the Jedi’s ship, Sol is bickering with Vernestra about what to do next. Vernestra and the Jedi Council want to have “a meaningful discussion.” Sol knows Mae is gunning for the Jedi Kelnacca. They know her next target and don’t want to hesitate. Vernestra cuts the transmission.
The next day, Qimir watches the Jedi at the local temple when Mae springs out and attacks him. He quickly pins her on the wall. She’s angry he sold her out. He counters that he can get them to Khofar, which happens to be where the Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca lives. The two then flee into the streets.
The episode ends on Khofar, where two travelers find Kelnacca’s home. The Wookiee Jedi scare them off.
And this is where The Acolyte episode 2 “Revenge/Justice” ends.
