The Mandalorian Season 3 had its faults, but one thing it delivered is giving a glimpse of a creature the show has been teasing since its first episode - the Mythosaur.
In The Mandalorian Chapter 1, the only reason Din Djarin could ride a blurrg is because Kuiil reminded him of the history of Mandalorians, who rode the Great Mythosaur. Hearing this inspired Din to give the blurrg another chance, and he was able to ride it. The triumphant music in the background of this scene and Kuiil's inspiring words about the great Mandalorian history always seemed to foreshadow the Mythosaur's return, and perhaps, Djarin would play some role in it.
Fast forward to Season 3, and we find out the Mythosaur was asleep under the Mines of Mandalore. Bo-Katan Kryze saw it when she dove into the waters to rescue an unconscious Din Djarin. At the end of the season, Grogu sensed the Mythosaur's presence, and it seemed the creature sensed him too. However, whatever we saw of it was nothing more than a tease, and a new Topps trading card has finally given fans a clear look at the Mythosaur's actual design.
While there isn't much in canon about Mythosaurs, its emergence from the depths of the Mines of Mandalore seems imminent and is guaranteed to play a major role in the future of Mandalore and its people.
Here are 5 predictions about what could be in store for the Mythosaur.
1. It will seek out the one who will lead Mandalore into a new age
According to The Armorer in The Book of Boba Fett, Mandalorian prophecy states, "A Mythosaur will rise to herald a new age of Mandalore." Even though Bo-Katan saw it and The Armorer took it as a sign that Bo-Katan was destined to rule the planet, the Mythosaur may not have fulfilled its true purpose yet. It will eventually seek out the person who will lead Mandalore into a new age, and that moment will be one every Mandalorian gets to witness with their own eyes.
2. It's arrival will be loud and clear
Bo-Katan confided in The Armorer, sharing a profound experience—she had caught a glimpse of the elusive Mythosaur. In return, The Armorer kept her secret safe. However, the existence of the Mythosaur shouldn't be kept a secret, as its existence can be a beacon of hope for the Mandalorian people. That's why it's destined to make a dramatic appearance, causing a scene that will leave everyone utterly shocked.
3. Mandalorians won't be too happy with Bo-Katan and The Armorer for hiding the truth
Even though Grogu sensed the Mythosaur's presence in the finale of Season 3, Din Djarin and other Mandalorians have no clue that there's one under their noses. Chances are, they may not be too happy that Bo and The Armorer kept such a big thing a secret from everyone. The Mythosaur is the symbol of Mandalorian culture and is thought to exist only in legends. Events in Season 3 suggest that no one besides Bo and The Armorer knows about its existence, which increases the possibility that the Mandalorian people might be pretty upset that their leader kept the creature hidden from them.
4. Din Djarin and Grogu will tame and ride the Mythosaur
They aren't called "A Clan of Two" for nothing. When the Mythosaur rises, I expect to see a repeat of The Mandalorian, Chapter 2, "The Child." This thing is probably at least 10 times bigger than a Mudhorn, but when it comes time to tame it and possibly ride it, Din Djarin, or anyone else, won't be able to do it alone. Grogu will have to step in and help calm the creature down, which means the two may end up working together and ride the Mythosaur. This guarantees that Grogu, a Mandalorian Jedi, and his father, an outsider who wasn't born on Mandalore, will be the ones to herald a new age of Mandalorians.
This age will usher in the revival of their planet, bringing peace, prosperity, and unity to Mandalorian society. Moreover, it will pave the way for improved relations between Mandalorians and Jedi. As the bond between Din Djarin and Grogu deepens, the Mandalorians may better understand and appreciate the Force, potentially even embracing it as part of their beliefs.
5. The Mythosaur will protect Mandalore
The Mythosaur may have been hiding underneath the living waters for decades now, but it's probably aware of everything Mandalore has been through. This means if war comes to Mandalore again, and the Empire, or Thrawn, decides to attack the planet, the Mythosaur won't sit around and watch his world get blown up. Thrawn better watch out because Mandalorians won't be alone. They'll have a giant dragon to back them up.
For now, we don't know when the Mythosaur will make its next appearance, but let's hope it shows up in The Mandalorian and Grogu which is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
