When The Mandalorian & Grogu was announced in January, fans expected it to be the one Star Wars movie that would start filming on schedule, without any delays, and stay on track for a May 2026 release.

Despite the announcement over six months ago, fans have received no updates on the project's status. Several credible sources reported that filming would begin this summer, with most confirming a June 2024 starting date. However, with July halfway through, Lucasfilm has remained silent, offering no hints that production has begun. While filming delays are common, the lack of information has left fans uneasy and concerned. According to ScreenRant, even the Mando stunt performers are busy with their other professional commitments, which begs the question of what exactly is happening here.

In the meantime, the main man behind Din Djarin, Pedro Pascal, is currently gearing up to film Marvel's Fantastic Four, where he plays Reed Richards. A few weeks ago, a post from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett's hairdresser hinted that Pascal would join other cast and crew for filming The Mandalorian & Grogu. However, no one has been able to confirm if the camera has begun rolling on the highly anticipated project.

The Mandalorian & Grogu's success is crucial for the franchise. It serves as a continuation of Din and Grogu's story after Season 3 ended over a year ago, which is why fans are perplexed by the silence from Lucasfilm. A while back, Jon Favreau confirmed that he'd written the script for Season 4, but soon after, rumors began to swirl that the fourth season may be reworked into a movie. While the status of Season 4 hasn't been officially confirmed, fans are desperately waiting for positive signs from Lucasfilm that all is well. Many hope that the silence is due to Lucasfilm's current focus being The Acolyte. With The Acolyte's finale just around the corner, fans are bracing themselves for potential news about the movie, hoping that the conclusion of the series will finally shed some light on the project's progress.

Lucasfilm has already upset some fans with a "will they or won't they" approach regarding a potential fourth season of The Mandalorian. Further silence about the movie, slated to be the franchise's first theatrical release since The Rise of Skywalker (2019), may prove costly and damage the overall excitement and anticipation. To prevent speculation and clickbait headlines, Disney and Lucasfilm must be transparent and truthful about the project's status, especially considering the show's immense success and dedicated fan base. It's time for Lucasfilm to end its inexplicable silence over such a major project and provide an encouraging update.

The Mandalorian & Grogu premieres in theaters on May 22, 2026.
