The ball is now rolling to see if Andor will get the big prize: The Emmys. It's been announced that Disney has submitted the series to 23 categories.
Reported by Variety, the Star Wars show is eying the big prizes of Outstanding Drama Series, Directing For A Drama Series, Writing For A Drama Series, and several acting categories. The main focus seems to be around Season 2, episode 8, "Who Are You?" and episode 9, "Welcome to the Rebellion," which focused on the Ghorman Massacre and its aftermath, with Mon Mothma fleeing the Senate. This makes sense as these were the highest praised episodes of the series from fans and critics alike.
Diego Luna is now in the running for Lead Actor In A Drama Series, which Variety also notes might not be Luna's only nomination this year. He's also been submitted for supporting actor (limited series) for the Hulu show La Máquina. It would be pretty awesome to see him be nominated twice.
Supporting Actor as well as Supporting Actress In A Drama Series categories pretty much round out the main cast with Stellan Skarsgård, Kyle Soller, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough, Adria Arjona, Faye Marsay, and Elizabeth Dulau all submitted. Guest Actor and Guest Actress have Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Benjamin Bratt, and Varada Sethu in contention. Alan Tudyk is the last for Character Voice-Over Performance for K-2SO.
The rest of the 23 categories are for production, which Star Wars has claimed some wins in the past, like with Ahsoka costume designer Shawna Trpcic winning after she had passed away. The production of Andor is definitely a highlight of the series, so we'll have to wait and see if they follow in Ahsoka's footsteps.
So far, though, the only Star Wars show to win some major categories at the Emmys is the pre-school series Young Jedi Adventures, which has cleaned up three years running a the Children's and Family Emmy Awards. It's kind of funny that the preschool show has more major Emmy wins than Andor at the moment.
I also hope Andor isn't the only show submitted for the Emmys. Once again, I am putting into the ether my hope that Skeleton Crew will also be submitted for the Children's and Family Emmy nominations. Young Jedi Adventures shouldn't be the only show to have all the Emmy-winning fun.
This is also just the submission process. By no means has Andor Season 2 gotten any nominations yet. With voting nominations running from June 12 to June 23, we'll find out on July 15 if the show will be in the running for the awards or not.
