Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), the classic Bioware RPG announced it was getting a remake back in September of 2021. It's now March of 2025 and to say the remake has been having a rough go of it would be an understatement. The remake that was initially being developed by Aspyr Media was given to Saber Interactive in late 2022. Since then, the remake has pretty much been frozen in carbonite only to be thawed out when news of it not being completely dead surfaces.
Case in point, the Chief Creative Officer of Saber Interactive Tim Willits said in a recent tweet, "Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world. We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to share. "
The good news here is that the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic isn't dead, at least not yet. While more concrete information like a release date or even what state the game is in would be nice and extremely welcome, we'll have to take what we can get. Until Saber Interactive announces a cancellation of the game, there's still hope that a KOTOR remake will exist and one day be playable.
The bad news however is that we still don't have any concrete information regarding the KOTOR remake. There may not be any news for a while considering Saber Interactive will more than likely be busy working on the recently announced Warhammer 40k: Space Marine Three, as well as continuing support for Space Marine Two. Besides those two games, they're also working on Jurassic Park: Survival as well as an Avatar: The Last Airbender game. Saber Interactive does employ over 2600 people so here's hoping some of them are working on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake.
It's not all bad on the Star Wars video game front though. Respawn's and Bit Reactor's turn-based Star Wars game will be shown off at Star Wars Celebration in April. On top of that, Respawn is currently working on the next game in their Jedi Fallen Order series. While it may be some time before there is any news on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, we'll at least have other Star Wars games to look forward to.
