With the new Star Wars: Legion Starter Sets finally having a release date, I wanted to breakdown each box and explain what's inside. While some of the information might become redundant in later articles, it's each box's value that I'm more focused on.

For the first starter set breakdown, we'll go with everyone's favorite plucky band of rebels, the Rebel Alliance! Led by Luke Skywalker, the rebels included in this box are comprised of a diverse set of freedom fighters who are looking to restore the Republic!

Star Wars: Legion Rebel Alliance box contents

Inside the Star Wars: Legion Rebel Alliance Starter Set you'll get:

1: 1x Luke Skywalker figure:

Luke Skywalker is donning the same yellow jacket he's seen wearing at the end of Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope. He's also been seen wearing the same outfit in Marvel's Star Wars comics.

Still showing his inexperience with a lightsaber, Luke is also seen wielding a blaster in his off-hand, which I think looks pretty cool.

2: 22x Rebel Troopers:

The backbone of the Rebel Alliance, these rebels put their life on the line to attempt to end the tyranny of the Galactic Empire and bring back the Galactic Republic. While not shown as much in the original films, these minis do a good job of showing how diverse the Rebel Alliance was in contrast to the human-centric Galactic Empire.

3: 7x Rebel Commandos:

Every good military needs a special forces division, and these Rebel Commandos fill that spot nicely. First seen on-screen in Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi on the forest moon of Endor, these Rebel Commandos were a good choice to include in the box for both lore and aesthetic reasons.

4: 6x Wookiee Warriors

While the only wookiee we saw in the films actively supporting the Rebel Alliance was Chewbacca, it makes sense that other wookiees would also fight for the rebellion, if for nothing else, than to end their enslavement at the hands of the Galactic Empire.

Armed with bowcasters and other heavy weapons, these Wookiee Warriors round out an already good box.

5: Dice, Movement Tools, Cards, etc:

Finally, we come to the items that are needed to play the game. While most wargames use D6 dice, Star Wars: Legion instead uses its own special type of dice to score hits, wounds, and saves. Besides dice, you'll also get command cards, unit cards, battle cards, range and measurement tools, tokens, and inserts.

While the cards in each starter box will be different, the rest of the tools included will be universal and included in each of the new starter kits.

Box price and overall value

The price for the Rebel Alliance Starter Set will be the same price as the other upcoming starter sets, with a retail value of $99.99. Starter Sets are usually one of the most cost-effective ways to get into a wargame like Star Wars: Legion, and in this section, I'll break down the value of the box vs buying everything individually.

If you want to buy the yellow jacket Luke figure, you'd need to pre-order the Heroes of the Rebellion box, which launches in October and retails for $69.99, a box of Rebel Troopers costs $54.99 and comes with 11 models, which means you'd need to buy two to get 22 Rebel Troopers, which would cost $109.98.

A box of seven Rebel Commandos will run you $52.99, and a box of Wookiee Warriors will cost $34.95. Moving onto the technical side, we have the movement and range tools, which are $29.99, with the attack and defense dice being $17.99 each. There are also different card packs too which are all varying prices.

Adding all of that up, the total for buying everything on its own is $333.88. The starter set on its own is $99.99, which means you're saving about $234 minus tax, which is an incredibly good deal!

If you're looking to get into Star Wars: Legion or wanna get some updated hard plastic models and save a bunch of money doing so, the Rebel Alliance Starter Set is for you! The Rebel Alliance Starter Set releases on Sept. 19, 2025.

Stay tuned because in the next few days, I'll be doing a breakdown of the Galactic Empire Starter Set!
