Wednesday was a pretty big day for gaming, as Nintendo of America revealed during their Nintendo Direct that the Nintendo Switch 2 would be releasing on June 5, 2025. In a separate sizzle reel video, Nintendo of America also revealed that Star Wars Outlaws would be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025.
Published by Ubisoft and developed by Massive Entertainment, Star Wars Outlaws first launched back in August of 2024 for the PS5, X-Box Series X/S, and PC and is set between the events of the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The game follows the protagonist and scoundrel Kay Vess as she looks to erase a death mark that was put on her head. Star Wars Outlaws is one of the few video games in the Star Wars franchise to really explore the setting between Empire and Jedi, with the first being Shadows of the Empire back in 1996.
While an exact release date for when Star Wars Outlaws would launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 wasn't shown, it'll most likely release shortly after the Nintendo Switch 2 is released. Before Star Wars Outlaws launched in August of last year, Ubisoft had put out a roadmap detailing what was in store for the game post-launch. The game's first DLC pack, "Wild Card," was released in November of 2024, with its second DLC pack, "A Pirate's Fortune," looking to launch this Spring.
Star Wars Outlaws is a pretty solid title to advertise being on the Nintendo Switch 2. It shows that Nintendo's sequel to the Switch can handle newer games, especially technical ones like Star Wars Outlaws and Elden Ring. Both games also contain sizeable open worlds too which also shows off the Nintendo Switch 2's upgrades.
Overall, this will most definitely please both Star Wars and Nintendo fans who are planning on getting a Nintendo Switch 2.
