It was revealed in Skeleton Crew episode 8, "The Real Good Guys," that Force-using pirate Jod Na Nawood was trained for a short time by a Jedi after the events of Order 66. The Empire caught up to them, killing his master. Now, we might know who played his master.
Yasmine Al Massri revealed on her Instagram that she had recorded scenes for the series where she played a Jedi. It was only one scene, and it would have been history-making. This would have been the first Jedi played by an Arab actress.
She said on her social media, "This was the shortest acting job I have done but the most meaningful to the child in me.. playing a Jedi for one scene in Skeleton Crew... I gave a speech when the crew wrapped me on set saying: you just created the first Arab female Jedi.. thank you.. the scene unfortunately didn’t make it to the finale cut bc these things happen... but I can not not share my experience and feelings.. even Liam rehearsed that scene with me and I got to brag about it with his friends which got me coolest mom respect for a moment."
The only place where Al Massri would have fit into the story would have been as Jod's Jedi Master. Maybe if one of Wim's stories had a little video he could watch where Al Massri played the character, but that doesn't fit the rest of his storybook aesthetics. I'm almost positive she filmed a flashback of some kind.
We also know that creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford do have a story for Jod's past. When speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Watts said he could describe what the episode would look like when Jod was a child meeting his master. However, Season 1 of Skeleton Crew was about Wim, Fern, KB, and Neel discovering the galaxy. The creators wanted to keep the focus on the story of the kids. Though, Ford did say something interesting in the EW article.
He noted, "So I don't think we could have done a flashback in this season," which Watts agrees with.
Perhaps if we get future seasons or content with Skeleton Crew, there is a chance we might see the scene filmed with Al Massri's Jedi Master. They could hold onto the footage until the time is right to reveal more of Jod's story.
While it would have been wonderful to have such a history-making character like Al Massri's Jedi, I do understand the choice to keep the focus of the story on the kids. I do hope we get to see her character grace the screen one day. Just from the Instagram picture, she looks excellent. Let's get more Skeleton Crew content and make it happen, Lucasfilm!
