There was a blink-and-you-miss-it detail in Skeleton Crew's third episode, "Very Interesting, As An Astrogation Problem," which could set up a major plot point later in the season. I know it's a quick moment because I completely missed this myself. It wasn't until I was watching Star Wars Explained's review and it was noted by Alex Damon that it hit my radar.

One of the main child characters, KB, has a serious medical condition.

The episode opens with the parents waiting for word from the mysterious Supervisor via the Security Droids about their missing kids. One of KB's parents, Garree, first brings up the potential problem, saying they have lost signal to KB's life monitor. Then later, after the Security Droid says the Supervisor won't contact the Republic for help, Garree screams at the droid, "Our daughter has very urgent medical needs!"

While we don't know what these medical needs are, perhaps this is why KB wears her visor all the time. It might be the piece of technology tracking her life signs. This could also be a big moment to set up future episodes of the show. This would not only give KB more story, something I noted the series opening episode was lacking, but it could also help prompt story arcs for other characters as well.

For example, if she has a medical issue when she's around the scoundrel Force user Jod Na Nawood, it could be a catalyst of change for him. He told her in episode 3 to trust her gut, not her logic. Perhaps, that lesson would apply right back to him. In order to save her life, he might have to trust the Force to guide him, which would help him change to be a better person.

I doubt this would be a change for Fern, who is more than likely already aware of her best friend's condition. If anything, she would be the one explaining what is happening if KB somehow gets sick. Instead, my speculation is that this would be the case for Wim's storyline.

A promotional image was released for a future episode showing KB and Wim sitting together in the middle of nowhere on an unknown planet. None of their friends or the adults traveling with them are with the duo. I believe this could be when KB has a medical emergency, forcing Wim to take care of her.

In the first episode, Fern told Wim to grow up. Having to care for someone else could be the path to do so. So far, he's been selfish like many young kids are, only thinking of his own adventure. He's ignored Neel's fears about the entire matter. However, if he's the only one around while KB is ill, it could be his moment to step up.

We'll have to wait and see for now, but until then, you can catch up or rewatch Skeleton Crew over on Disney+.
